Thanks very much Ed Stainless
The stacking and and wire cutting operation is to get the stator shape
I then seperate all the laminations and restack them all with insulation between each one
and wind copper wire around them
There is just about zero carbon in the steel
So I assume the edm...
Got it straight in my head now
No carbon ,,, no hardening
No punching ,, no work hardening taking place
Just a thin oxidised surface , quite thin ,, no effects
All the lamination's are stacked together , welded on the edge ( it welds nice , I guess its the high silicon )
Then the stator is edm wirecut out of the centre of the stack
Thank you
I have wire cut a 40 mm 12 tooth , 0.5 mm lamination thickness stator piece , there are 16 pieces
Im doing a skip tooth Classic LRK wind
large prop at about 4000 RPM
Do I need to anneal the stator pieces after wire cutting
Does wire cutting greatly effect the properties of the steel or...
Thanks
Work and health took away our hot nitric and hyroflouic bath
And a good vacuum guy said you don't put EDM wire cut surfaces in high vacuum , so that recast has to be removed somehow
Hand work does it at a time cost
How do you remove that dark oxide layer on SS
Portions of my parts are very narrow with small holes 3mm and I cannot quite get the TIG brush in the area Also ,,,
Tig brush creates heat which can warp slender parts
Can you recommend some powerful pickling ????
Thank You
Mag Mike
Thank you
They have a small part machined , that they could try that on
What is it a heavy copper cable and how much current to start ?
We have a small 60 Watt demagnetiser here I could try that
Its 10 Al 68 Copper and 4% iron
Turned out more Magnetic than 316
So Can it be removed by electric means
I dont want to heat very high as they are longish bars
Thank You
Thanks for the reply
Its a research setup and as you know can be complex
What he may do is just a salt water swim pool silicon carbide on viton seal if there is room
or a silicon carbide on teflon , if not,,,, its back to SS
I have lots of Al Ni Bronze here and maybe a home build tefon...
Colleague, has a SS tube 30 Dia by 400 long with an oil seal type running on the 30 dia
Slowly
Usually wet
But can turn dry
Approx 10% salt water
Looks like a galvanic type corrosion at the seal area
No heat involved
Can you recommend a metal , SS ? I dont think plastic will do...
