    New workstation recommendations

The Athlon64s are easily the fastest processors on the market at the moment, and probably for some time to come. Not to mention the abitily to address more than 4GB of ram when Windows 64bit version arrives. If you've got the dosh, a dual Opteron setup is definitely a good choice. For your...

    Spineless Splines in SP 5?

ATI cards are not inherently bad for SolidWorks. In fact, the FireGL series is based on much better hardware than the Quadro. As has been stated before, the key is to check if the card is approved by SolidWorks, which generally means a workstation class card...

    PDMWorks - Can't Find Files

While it is not recommended, you can do quite a lot by hacking around in the vault. I haven't actually tried it, but I think you could delete a revision by: 1, Stopping the PDMWorks service. 2, Deleting the specific revision from the vault. 3, Restarting the PDMWorks service. Though I'm not...

    PDMWorks Link to Revision Table

I looked into integrating the revision table and PDMWorks - it's not really possible. The revision table is not smart enough to let PDMWorks control the revision number, it keeps trying to change it. We settled on only showing the details of the latest revision in the title block, and not even...

PDM Works running on a Novell network

After talking to our IT guy, it turns out that we are running a mixed Novell/Microsoft enviroment. Our PDMWorks installation presumably uses the Microsoft network client. Still, I haven't seen any info about PDMWorks not running on a Novell network.

PDM Works running on a Novell network

We are running a Novell network with PDMWorks. Everything works fine. I certainly don't understand why you can't assign a vault directory, we have been able to do that with no problems. I will ring our VAR today and find out whether PDMWorks supports Novell.

    Properly ending a Macro

Not normally. You'll notice that the program I gave doesn't explicitly set swApp = nothing. In fact, I hardly ever do it. There are very few instances where you do need to do this. It's not the big problem everyone else has made it out to be. Userforms are a bit different from objects declared...

    Properly ending a Macro

I think your memory leak is happening because your program isn't loading and unloading your addin properly. Too be honest, your program needs a bit of work. For a start, you should declare all your variables inside a subroutine or function to limit their scope. Declaring variables at the module...

    Properly ending a Macro

Sounds like an API issue to me. CAD APIs are normally quite buggy in my exerience. I think it's going to be nearly impossible to solve without seeing the code. Are you willing to share your code with the rest of the world?

How does PDM deal with configurations?

Bradley, Could you explain what you mean by 'configurations of configurations'? Also, I don't see what the difference is between a part file with configs and an assembly with configs. Surely if you can have one, then you can have the other.

    More PDMWorks Talk!

"My point is really that sometimes using a separate file instead of a configuration makes better sense. I completely agree. We only use them where a few dims are changing or a hole is being suppressed/unsuppressed. Making part files complex for the sake of it is a dangerous game. While...

    More PDMWorks Talk!

" I would argue that if the configurations are unique enough not to be covered using a tabulated or multi-sheet drawing then individual files are required for configurations specific to any given unique part number." In some instances, certainly. We wanted to have the option of doing...

    More PDMWorks Talk!

Hi Automationbabe "I'm assuming you are opening all of your drawings in As-built status then?" No, we use "latest revision". "As built" is only be used if we want to see what a previous revision looked like. I can see what you're getting at though. This is what I...

    More PDMWorks Talk!

There's really no difference between a drawing referencing a part and an assembly referencing a part. Would you try to keep the revision of an assembly and its parts the same? Of course not. What about a drawing that references 2 or more parts. Should all the parts have the same revision as the...

    SWX 2004 Custom Material Database

You could shrink your description quite easily. eg SS RB 17-4 PH H1150 T630. The pessimist says the character limit is too short. The optimist says the material name is too long. The engineer say the material name is twice as long as it needs to be. ;-)

    Solidworks Toolbox Problem

Have you converted your toolbox files to the 2004 format?

    More PDMWorks Talk!

Actually, another thing... IMO, working copies should never be allowed. They are the spawn of the Devil. If you're not very careful, it can very easy to have documents referencing working copies that no longer exist. If you open the file "As Built", what is it going to open? Working...

    More PDMWorks Talk!

I'll go into a bit more detail. For new products the first check in has revision is -.01. The "-" was chosen simply because we needed something before "A". During the design process the "-" is kept constant and only the number is changed. eg the second check in...

    More PDMWorks Talk!

"IMO you shouldn't use PDMWorks in conjunction with an ECN process.  I wouldn't even advise you to use it for Revision control." I disagree. In fact, I'm puzzled as to why you think it isn't good for revision control. Sure, there are differences between the version of a model and the...

    PDMWorks Question

"What is relevant however is that the file version in the original folder (where the "checked in" files originated from) is flagged as "newer than" the vault version in local view but when I go to "open" the checked in version, the PDMW "open" dialog...
