    Contact with a rigid body

bassmanjax: Thanks, your info helped me. Really appreciate it corus: I was only testing the model to see if it would bend inwards or not.

    Contact with a rigid body

Ok I tried changing the model, I am now using a Static General step. However there still seems to be a major problem. In this model I am pushing the endplate into the rigid body. I am applying force all along the endplate closest to the rigid body and not the plate at the end of the beam. I've...

    Contact with a rigid body

That is what I have been trying to do, however after I create the properties and wish to create the interaction I get this message from trying to create a contact. 'Pressure Penetration interaction can only be created in Planar and Axisymmetric models'. Does this mean I'll have to create the...

    Contact with a rigid body

Hi, I'm modelling a square steel beam connected to an end palte being twisted and pushed into a rigid surface. I've modelled it in shell as my beam is hollow and will be too thin for proper analysis. I'm using a static linear perturbation step for the analysis and I'm not sure how to model the...

    Contact Surface

Thanks for the help. I now know how to model this properly (I tried a different model which was just a solid square block and thicker endplate), however I learned from another site that my meshing isn't fine enough as I would need three cubes in thickness in the beam in order to properly...

    Contact Surface

Hi, I tried to do what you told me, however this message came up instead when I was trying to run the job. "Interaction property contact surface specifies a contact damping type of step type, which is not available in Abaqus/Standard analysis. The input file was not generated, and the job was...

    Contact Surface

This is the picture of the contact menu Thanks for any help providedhttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e50044b1-d4ea-47a2-9375-77f7e7b36e20&file=menus.png

    Contact Surface

Hi, I've asked this question several times to no avail and I still have to get a working model. Basically I wish to model a steel beam to column connection that is under torsion. In the picture provided the flanges at the beam are to simulate torsion and the beam is connected to and endplate...

    Contact in Abaqus

I'm ran the simulation again and it's been over an hour. This is the message that I have gotten from it. Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong. It just isn't analysing the job that I created http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=9b3a323f-079a-4f7b-9a96-afd585683cf1&file=Untitled.png

    Contact in Abaqus

No it doesn't, as I said earlier there is a warning message that says "There are 2 unconnected regions in the model."

    Contact in Abaqus

The main problem I am facing in my model, is that when running the model the analysis can take over 30 minutes and there is a warning that says "There are 2 unconnected regions in the model." This is the model that I have created. There is a UDL on the beam and the endplate is fixed at the...

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

The endplate and beam are in union and the flanges at the square beam are to apply torsion. The endplate is fixed at the edges and can warp in any direction to the (Z)axis. What I really want to do now is to stop the endplate warping into the back but allowing it to warp in the direction of the...

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong and how to simulate what I want to do?

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

I tried what you said about the displacement boundary conditions, however the endplate is now not warping at all. I wanted it to be able to warp towards the beam while not being able to do so towards where the column is supposed to be located.

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

I see, well I just started using AbaqusCAE anyway so I'm still learning it as it now. Thanks for the info though, I'll try look it up

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

Thanks for your help. The reason why I was using contact was because I wanted to stop the endplate that the beam is connected to from warping into where the column is supposed to be located

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

I don't understand what I am doing wrong here but I would really appreciate your help thank you

    Steel beam-column connection torsion

Hi I'm currently modelling a steel beam under torsion that is welded to a column. I am currently having problems modelling the contact surface as it says that in the Warnings page: (576 elements are distorted. Either the isoparametric angles are out of the suggested limits or the triangular or...
