Plotting force-displacement of a column under compressive axial load

Jiligeo, Thank you for your response. I changed the "Frequency" of output results through "Sol'n Controls", which should be equal to "outres, all, all" command. I listed the displacements of a node and I only saw the results of the first step. I wonder where the results of other substeps go.

Plotting force-displacement of a column under compressive axial load

I have simulated a concrete column under axial load. After the analysis is finished, I can only see the very last status of the column (stresses, deformation etc.) but I wonder about the entire history of force-displacement. The load is applied in terms of monotonic displacement. I need to plot...

    concrete prism under compression

I am trying to simulate a concrete prism under compression. It's a 1" by 1" by 1" which is to be loaded axially. The concrete has a typical nonlinear stress-strain behavior i.e. an almost parabolic ascending portion and a linear descending branch (please see the attachment). I assume that since...

How to create a parabola in Ansys

I need to simulate a cable which shape is a parabola. I am wondering how to create the geometry? Thank you!

modelling concrete shrinkage:change in volume due to loss of moisture

Concrete shrinks because of loss of it's moisture over time. If it's free, it shrinks easily and no stresses develop in it. When it's restrained, tensile stresses develop and cause crackings. I need to model this behavior through finite elements. There is a block of concrete --lets say...

    why my contact doesn't work?

I have simulated a concrete deck laying on a simply supported steel beam. Some vertical loads are applied on the concrete beam. Both concrete and steel are modeled using 2D-solid elements. Surface-to-surface contact element is defined between deck and the beam--a very simple problem. I wonder...

    real constants for Beam23

For a W14x132: A=38.8 in^2 Depth=14.7 in I (i.e. I2)=1530 in^4 Substitution of these is the equations attached gives: A(50)=A(-50)=0.974 A(30)=A(-30)=135.949 A(0)=9.4815 Note that we need to guess one of the variables, I guessed A(0) the way Ansys help recommends: A(0)= depth x web thickness=...

    real constants for Beam23

Hi Ansysfreak Under section "14.23. BEAM23-2-D Plastic Beam" there are five equations to be solved in order to find input Areas. In case of a W14x132 I get these, I am not sure if I understood the Ansys help properly though: A(50)=A(-50)=0.974 A(30)=A(-30)=135.949 A(0)=9.4815 I didn't...

    real constants for Beam23

I wonder how to define real constants for Beam23 elements when "general section" is under consideration. I couldn't figure out what are those "area at -50 ...". How would you find those values for let's say a W14x132 section? Thanks for the help

    Strange rigid body motion

Sometimes I get rigid body motion issues in my contact problems even though the structures are statically stable. What I do is to review contact properties and status, applying small load or sometimes even a small value for friction. These might be helpful?

    meshing of concrete block

slumdogengineer and ansysfreak, Merging nodes through NUMMRG does what I want! Also, "glue"ing the volumes before meshing them solves my problem. Thank you guys! Amin

    meshing of concrete block

Hello slumdogengineer, Thank you very much for the tip, I really appreciate it. I actually wanted to avoid dividing the "source" into 5 regions. In that case, there will be 5 small blocks (then I would need to constrain coincident nodes, the thing I want to avoid). I was wondering how to mesh...

    meshing of concrete block

I forgot to add...I usually divide the block to portions with unifrom meshing and then i constrain them (using Coupling utilities in Ansys) but this is really time consuming and I am not happy with such an approach, there should be better way to do that.

    meshing of concrete block

I have a concrete block to be meshed like the attached picture. I have been desperately trying to do so, no success so far, could anyone please help? The block is not a complete cube. My problem mostly arises from a fact that the distance between the mesh lines are not equal...Both top view and...

    Solid[95] element with curved edges

The figures of Ansys help on Solid95 gave me an impression that a Solid95 element can have curved edges (I wanted to simulate one quarter of the steel bar with only one element and because of run time problems.) What I am understanding form your note is that Solid95 can not have curved edges and...

    Solid[95] element with curved edges

I want to simulate a one inch diameter steel rod with only four elements across its section. I wonder if it is possible to define a Solid[95] element with curved edges? I could use a fine mesh so that the the curvature of the rod could be fairly simulated, but I don't want to do that, I thought...
