Date In Drawing Is Always Date Opened/Printed

This is probably a basic question that shouldn't have to be asked. When we open any drawing .SLDDRW the date that appears in the title block is the date it was opened or printed and not the date it was created. If we we save the open file, the date is changed to the current date. Can someone...

    Solidworks vs SolidEdge

Thanks everyone! Your replies reinforce my believe that our problems won't go away with a different software package, in fact they will multiply! I will post a new thread detailing the file structure so it can be disected. Thanks again! Scott4tg

    Solidworks vs SolidEdge

Let me start by saying I have been using SW since the release of SW2005 and have been very happy. My company has just hired a new manager over the engineering department who seems to think all of our problems could be solved by switching over to SolidEdge. I am asking for opinions from people...

    Driving assemblies with a sketch

We make door panels of all different sizes and configs. I know there is a way to make a layout sketch in an assembly and then insert each part of the door and have the length of each component driven by the layout sketch. Can someone point me in the right direction. We want to have an openening...

    Inserting Layers into SW Drawing/.DWG

Is there a way that you can create a dimensioned drawing (DWG) from a part in SW that can have multiple layers in the drawing that can be turned on or off as needed. For instance. We create die drawings that are sent to our extruding company. They may require certain dimensions for what they do...

How Many Constraints are needed to Fully Define a Sketch

I am using SW2007 and am working on an aluminum extrusion sketch that is a library feature to be inserted into a weldment later. The sketch has three profiles along the base that are identical. I am trying to get the sketch fully defined without have a gadgillion dimensions on the sketch. Is...

    Simulation Motion In Assembly SW2007

Does anyone know what rules apply when trying to simulate motion in an assembly within an assembly. What I have is an assembly with mates that has been inserted into another assembly. When I try to add motion it won't move. Do I need to establish the motion in the first assembly before adding it...

    Smart Dimensioning text disapeares

We had immported an Autocad Drawing and that is when we ran into the problem. We found if we exported the registry keys from a machine that was not affected back to the affected machine it took care of the problem. Thanks anyway. We just found this fix. Scott4tg

    Lightweight in assemblies

When I open an assembly it always goes to lightweight. I have turned off the "Use large Assembly Mode" to increase performance. I do not have a check mark in the "Automatically load components lightweight" I have increased the number of components to 1500 in the "Use large assembly Mode". If I...

    Mating Assemblies

Yes, the hole is fixed and we need to be able to mate another plate coincident to the face and align the second plate with the slot drawn on it to the hole for building the assembly in 3d before we manufacture these parts for real world application. You have been very helpful. Thanks! Scott4tg

    Mating Assemblies

That makes sense, now to beat the dead horse a little would you do the same thing to get the the center of the length of the slot, equal distance from the each end of the slot, to the center of the hole?? It seems to me there should be some simple way of doing this such as in the advance mate...

    Mating Assemblies

Thanks for the info, as far as a 3d sketch I tried that and when I go to mate them it thinks there are the same entity and won't mate. As far as a line and coincident I should have mentioned that the drilled hole is smaller in diamtere than the elongated slot minor diameter for clearnace...
