Sharik,
See NBIC Part 3, Section 4 under 4.5.1. "Valves marked for steam service, or having special internal parts for steam service, shall be tested on steam".
Thanks Mike
My opinion the best thing is to purchase an API-510 ICP (Inspector certification package). Be sure to order it for the date you plan on taking the exam. http://www.global.ihs.com/api_certification.cfm
Thanks Mike
API requires a qualified person inspects the tank roof to confirm that it is structurally sound and will support the weight of the workers and equipment.
My questions are;
What methods of inspections are performed to document and confirm the structural integrity of the storage tank roof...
Our EDC cracking furnaces are 20+ years old, horizontal radiant coils, 8" sch/40 Alloy 800H tubes, 15 radiant tubes per coil. 200 psig design pressure, maximum decoke temperature of 1250F. The furnaces are steam/air decoked annually and we inspect them annually. We perform EMAT and GUL testing...
Iganga,
Yes, the rope access people can get to the walls using their rigging. Best thing to do is have a reptuable rope access company with an excellent safety record review your drawings and develop their rigging/rescue plans. Our spheres are 80' diameter and have a 6" stilling well in the...
I have the 2006 2nd edition HRSG Users Handbook and have found it to be very useful. Its not a very large book for the 345.00 price tag but its packed full of good information.

Consider ordering the HRSG Users Handbook http://www.hrsgusers.org/pub/pdf/Handbook_Brochure.pdf it has been very helpful in our plant. In addition to the other posts, identify piping systems and equipment suceptible to FAC for baseline inspections.
Mecha20 Subtract your minimum thickness reading from the nominal thickness then divide by the amount of time in service. Will give you a general corrosion rate.

I use an ultrasonic leak detector for pressure or vacuum leaks on heat exchangers, has worked well for me. Also helium testing.

Part of our plant is also a C/A facility. We developed a guideline for handling sulfuric acid in our plant and also barricade all sulfuric acid areas with red chain and signs to increase daily awareness. Proactive measures we use are flange covers that are inspected monthly, shields on pump...
metengr and pmover thanks for your replies.
It seems most plants I have talked to have used the 60, 84 and 120 month allowable extension periods as the internal inspection interval for the steam drums. The boiler may be shut down for tube cleaning or other maintenance work in between the...
I have a couple questions about how other boiler users interpret section 755.026 of the Texas Boiler Law copied below. I realize TDLR and the insurance inspector have the final say so. I am mainly curious as to other users opinions and practices.
(1) Assuming section 755.026 is complied with...
