Hello,
I used weld point - resistance spot in the modelling environment to create spot weld but when switching to FEM environment there are multiple unnecessary polygon bodies created automatically which are invisible (infinitely small). how to prevent these polygon body

Hello Blas,
Thanks for the detailed reply which helped me in understanding the non - linear analysis and the behaviour of certain elements in SOL 106.
I was able to model the same and got fairly better results.
few queries
1. It suddenly jumps in between what is that jump? and at the same...
Hello Blas,
tried what you said but now the results are completely wrong, I am attaching the SIM & FEM file help me where I have missed something....
SIM File : http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=c4da20c8-b3aa-4435-b3d5-904b5f37257a&file=forum_sim1.sim

Dear Blas,
Thanks a lot for the detailed explaination...
Few Querries
1. Result is meaningless as you say it is linear analysis and possible solution is to reduce the distance between them to 0 and then solve but my doubt is then, will it include the effect of initial bending and energy lost in...
Hello Blas,
Attached is the image of simplified model with legend specified from 0-200 to clearly see the effect of lower sheet without even touching it.
Also attached Fem and sim file
SIM file...
Hello,
Same problem persist can you help in FEM method more details about the INITIAL GAP OPENING & AXIAL STIFFNESS FOR OPEN GAP, and also about the orientation of element.
Thanks & Regards,
Prakhar Gupta
Gap properries
Initial opening 18 mm
Axial stiffness closed gap 1500000 N/mm
Axial stiffness open gap 10 N/mm
Transverae stiffness gap closed 150000 N/mm
Coeff friction Y 0.3
Hi
Thanks for detailed reply.
I have applied one method at a time only.
In sim environment I have applied min dist. = 18 & max dist = 23 but then also as soon as lower sheet starts to bend the upper sheet is also affected without even touching it.
In fem I was missing to edit treat cgap as...
Hello,
I am modelling a simple structure with two sheets which are about 20mm apart both are fixed, force is applied on the lower sheet in upward direction such that it bends and then touches the upper sheet....
I have applied both surface to surface contact mesh from FEM environment and surface...
Hi,
what is the actual difference between them.....
iterative solver solved while the sparse solution gave the UFM 9137 and told either to constrain or use bailout......
and whats is SPC where to specify ??
Thanks & Regards,
Prakhar Gupta
Hi,
thanks it helped me.....
the problem was mesh size it needs to be large enough so that the weld diameter fits into it i.e. only single node should be inside of it.....and we can edit the CWELD after applying, it works fine.....
Hi,
I have attached the image of what it prompt when a value above 1 is entered.....
both are sheet element with thickness 1mm and 0.5mm apart
Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
I have got your point but with surface to surface contact in sim environment the solver run for about 7 hrs and gave no result, I have also tried automatic surface contact mesh in fem environment with iterative solver though it didn't converge but gave fairly good result.
I am using NX 7.5...
