    Long drop pipe supports

Flexible drops at the bottom might be a good option. Thank you all for your feedback, appreciate it.

    Long drop pipe supports

The project isn't in a seismic area in itself, but it's close to an active seismic area. I think it will be affected by any nearby seismic activity. I think that if the pipe or hanger is suspended for 9 m in mid-air, it will be subject to lateral movement.

    Long drop pipe supports

I thought about your suggestion, but if I do that then the pipe supports will extend from the low ceiling up till the high ceiling (9 m). Is that acceptable?

    Long drop pipe supports

Hi everyone, I have a dinning hall that has a ceiling height of 43 ft (13 m) which requires sprinkler protection as per NFPA. Ceiling panels are suspended at a height of 13 ft (4 m) above ground. These panels have width greater than 3.9 ft (1.2 m) and therefore are considered as obstruction to...

Clearance between sprinkler pipes and ceiling

Hello, I want to ask if there is a section in NFPA 13 that specifies the minimum and maximum clearances between sprinkler pipes and adjacent walls and ceilings. Also, does NFPA 13 mention the clearance/distance required between sprinkler pipe supports (e.g. hangers) and the ceiling above? I...

    IBC Sprinkler Height

Hello, I know this is an NFPA forum, but maybe some of you have the expertise in IBC as well. IBC 2015 mentions in Section 404.3 that sprinklers are not required where the ceiling of atrium is above 55 ft height. In the "IBC Code and Commentary" they explain that sprinkler systems are no...

    IBC Sprinkler Height

Hello, IBC 2015 mentions in Section 404.3 that sprinklers are not required where the ceiling of atrium is above 55 ft height. In the "IBC Code and Commentary" they explain that sprinkler systems are no longer effective at 55 ft and that installing them provides little benefits. Does anyone...

What is the Extinguishment Requirement for Lodging or Rooming Occupancy ?

Hello, Refer to NFPA 1 for Sprinklers, FE and standpipes under title "Where Required" to understand where each shall be used. Thanks

    Confusion Fire Hose Reel Coverage

Hello, If we refer to NFPA 14, the hose shall not be more than 100 ft (30.5 m). Section 4.6.2.1 states that " Each hose connection provided for use by trained personnel (Class II and Class III systems) shall be equipped with not more than 100 ft (30.5 m) of listed, 11⁄2 in. (40 mm), lined...

Is it a must to use standpipe class II if the building is protected by sprinkler system?

Hello, Installing Standpipe Class II is independent from whether the building requires sprinklers and/or Standpipe Class I systems. NFPA does not have general requirements as to where Standpipe Class II shall be used like they have for Standpipe Class I systems. It is the responsibility of the...

    Foam hose stream

francescociani88, 1) A "stream" is a continuous flow of liquid, air or gas. So the foam hose stream is the jet of foam mixture (water + foam concentrate) coming out of the foam hose equipment. There is no commercial product. 2) ● You should determine the type of foam system you intend to use...

    Thrust Support for Pipes

stookeyfpe - Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Actually yes the bracket is made of Aluminum and this doesn't comply with NFPA 13 which requires it to be ferrous as this bracket is fabricated in the field, so needless to say it's not listed. Travis/NewtonFP - Yes we might use seismic...

    Thrust Support for Pipes

cdafd - True, they are using them to support the pipes against thrust forces. If you look closely (upper left), they are using a similar setup to support the above change in direction you mentioned. Yes it is a field fabricated setup. Also, there is a 220 psi fire pump used. This project is...

    Thrust Support for Pipes

Good day all. The contractor on our project has installed field-manufactured devices on the elbows and direction changes of the firefighting system in the basement floors. These devices were installed to account for any large thrust forces on the pipe fittings. I have the following questions...

    Deluge Valves for Transformers Room

Travis - Wetting the transformer having fire is what we're intending to do. It's a waste to ruin the other transformers having no fire. LCREP - All 3 transformers are large ones at 1500 MVA. They roughly measure 1.9 m x 1.7 m x 2 m each. NFPA 15 recommends to protect side by side oil-insulated...

    Deluge Valves for Transformers Room

Hello everyone, first time poster. I need guidance in a design case I'm working on. In reference to NFPA 15, Chapter 3 Section 3.3.19.1 stating the definition of a Deluge Valve as " A type of system actuation valve that is opened by the operation of a detection system installed in the same...
