Question regarding ASME Sec I & IX Minimum Thickness. Client has tubes in the 0.050" thickness range (Original tubes 2" SA178A 0.175"). Client would prefer to Weld Metal Build Up (WMB) to repair tubes. All of our WPS/PQR are qualified to 0.0625" minimum thickness. Is there a clause in either...
Working on a Recovery Boiler (Designed to ASME Section 1) Received boiler feeder tubes that came with ASME Data Report P4A & have ASME PP mark applied. Its my opining that feeder tubes are Boiler Proper as-per ASME Section 1 (PREAMBLE) & should have ASME S Mark applied & a P4 Data report supplied.
Guys thanks for the quick response. As-per information below SA-213-TP347H has a higher maximum allowable stress value than SA-213-T91. NBIC has no reference to tensile strength nor does ASME Sec 1 when calculating tube min wall. So can you let me know if I am missing something. Again thanks for...
My company is involved with a project to change out four superheater platens that failed a short time after boiler (150 MW Coal Fired) start up. The four superheater platens have multiple materials i.e. SA-213-T22 SA-213-T11 SA-213-T91 & SA-213-TP347H. Due to delivery issues for SA-213-T91 it...
My question is should code required RT be conducted before or after PWHT. My opinion is after as the weld is not complete until all of the essential variables of the WPS has been met which includes PWHT.
Developing GMAW (STT) Root & Hot Pass / SMAW Fill & Cap weld procedure my question is QW-403-10 does this essential variable apply to both processes. Please see below.
#1. Test Coupon 0.375" Root 0.125" x 1.1 = 0.1375" Fill & Cap 0.25" x 1.1 = 0.275" = Qualified base metal thickness...

ASME Code Case 2835, ASME Section VIII UG-84(g) (2) impact tests are no longer valid if they were completed prior to ASME Section VIII Div 1, 2013 edition. Is re-qualification require with new impact test?.
Added 2% H2 to the Argon worked perfect all mechanical test was acceptable. Thanks to allhttps://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=2969f4df-de2f-416a-878d-e3067c19d645&file=IMG_4993.JPG
Need some clarification regarding welder testing to corrosion resistant overlay. We are going to be testing welders to ASME Sec IX using the FCAW process. WPS we are testing to is a multi layer E309LT-1 (F6) first layer & E312T-1 (F6) second layer on SA516-70 base material. Our client is...
Ron No we are not preheating I did consider the wire as the issue but the root pass was perfect. Thanks.
metenr yes we did check all of the electrical connections including the programing for each pass still no success. Thanks.
Root pass went in really nice but when we started to weld the hot pass the wire would not fuse to the weld puddle. We tried adjusting amperage ect with no success.
Developing a Cooper/Nickel(Orbital)welding procedure Material is 4" Sch40 ASTM B466 UNS-C70600 Weld Filler ERCuNi(67). Shielding gas Argon 100% Back Purge Argon 100%. Applying hot pass is were we are having issues. Does anyone have any ideas as I have run out. Attached is a photo of the fit-up &...
Currently working on a LNG piping installation the pipe service is Cryogenic design MDMT is -321F. Materials are SA312-TP316L. Client has requested the completed lines be Pneumatic tested due to moisture concerns. Code is ASME B31.3. Can anyone recommend a minimum metal & test medium (Nitrogen)...
