    Maintaining Track of my notes

Bullet journal on a Moleskine for day to day stuff and Trello for project related work. I use two system so I can filter out the day to day noise from my longer term project notes. I tried to put everything on a single notebook but that got too messy for me.

    Heating of Industrial Machine

The steel .014" thick precut and is preheated to 70F during the colder temps. Dimensions are about 190" x 22". However, it would have to travel about 20' at 300 fpm to our machine. I have a feeling it would have cooled down by the time it gets to our machine for forming. I would say the strip...

    Heating of Industrial Machine

I am looking ways to heat the rolls on a roll forming machine similar to this one. The rolls of this machine are forming sheet metal with a painted surface. Because of the lack of heaters in the plant, to temperature can dip to 40F. We are told to maintain 70F to prevent cracking of the...

Effect of Spring Pin thru Heavy Hex Nut

You could also consider Nord Lock washers. A sales guy told us they used these on the rail industry.

    Flatness calculation

Are these points within the flatness tolerance?

autocad14 upgrading to inventor or solidworks

We have been using R14 too. I worked with Draftsight for a while now and it is a decent AutoCAD clone. I would recommend it if you don't need any complex macro scripts. As it was previously mentioned, it is free. [smile]

How much of a "thick skin" to survive the corporate world?

Does this develop working in large comapanies, certain industries(automotive?), or just personality?

    Cylindricity on threaded part?

Madhu454, The cylindrical callout tolerances the pitch diameter of the threads. I've seen them measure the threads by the 3 wire method then reverse calculate to find the pitch diameter. Regards

COTs and DATA Room Drafting Standards

Buda000, I recalled years ago I worked with a guy that had this type of certification. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copper_cable_certification Purhaps they will have some recommendation of wire locations you talk about. Of course, this is the first time I've heard anything like this hear so...

    Preparing for GD&T certification

Steve, I was kind of in the same situation as you last year. Although I use GD&T at work, I choose to do the senior certification mainly for my own benefit. Going through the body of knowledge helped understand to scope of study that is needed. Read, read, read and test yourself now and...

    Poorly paid, exploited, or typical?

Pace82, I would make sure if the move is a right fit for you and not just looking at the compensation. An HR guy told me this a while back ago, the two things a new boss was looking for, whether you will be able to cope with him and whether he can cope with you. So far, I had two bosses that...

    Poorly paid, exploited, or typical?

Pace82, You are not the only one in that position. I've been working at my current position out of school for 6 years now and now looking to find another employer. I got a 10% raise the past year, however; comparing with the salary review in my field I'm still below starting salary of new...

Thank you all for you insights. Thank you CheckerHater for the point about Y14.24

    Note: Machine as a pair

I've come across this note several times before. My understanding is that they would like to hold a dimension to be identical such as a pair of rails for assembly. It there anything in the GD&T callouts that would do something along the lines of this note? I was thinking about using profile of...

Cylindricity : Combination of straightness + Circularity?

I'm a little confused with that definition. Isn't cylindricity a composite tolerance of circularity, straightness, and taper? If so, could we not use cylindricity to tolerance a cone?

Who accepts final responsability for a drawing; the Certified Drafter or the Engineer that checks it

Hi all, I'll try to summarize what we are taught about law in our field. In Ontario, Canada it is up to the engineer who signs the drawing to accept responsibilty. He may have others detail but it is his duty to ensure that the drawings are checked. In the unfortunate event where there is a...

    Form controls for datums

Madhu, From your sketch, the axis of the hole must be within a 0.1 diameter tolerance zone located from the datums A, B, and C. Datum A, B, and C are theoretically flat planes. The datum feature A is the surface on your part. The form on that feature is not controled and that is why it can...

    Position Refinement

pmarc, I'm getting into GD&T. I'm wondering if you can clarify a question regarding the standard for patterns. In your attachement, can the axis of the FRTZF be outside the PLTZF? I know the standard says the axis of the feature must go through both tolerance zones. It appears to me this can...
