Is there any ASME or other specification covering Balloons in Assembly drawings? Specifically, can you place a balloon for the same part in two different views?
Thanks
Is these any ASME standard that indicates whether or not the assembly drawing BOM (parts list) needs to exactly match a MRP generated BOM?
My question revolves around items such as shipping materials (preformed foam blocks, manuals, crates, etc..). The assembly drawing lists all of the parts...
There are some exceptions in which you don't have to create a revision. One is when you completely redraw and replace a drawing. It is noted in the revision column but the revision letter does not change. However, I can't find anything to correct spelling errors.
One thing that I tried to find...
I have an instance where a spelling error was introduce during the last revision change. The word is in the drawing title and was spelled correctly in revision "A" of the drawing. During the update to revision "B" one word in the title was accidentally changed. The change request markup does not...
Does anyone know if projection lines connecting two views of an orthographically projected drawing are specifically allowed or not allowed per the ASME Y14 specifications.
I found a section in Y14.3 that allows projection line for alignment of auxiliary views but haven't seen anything for 3rd...
All,
Situation; We have partnered with another company in which they performed a product design for us. The final TDP is not ready and probably won't be for some time. All of the detail drawings are on their format using their cage code and part number system.
What I need to do: I need to put...
I don't have Y14.5M-1994 as we are currently on Y14.5-2009. However this pointed me to the section I needed. The answer is the "CONTINUOUS FEATURE" symbol or callout as stated in Y14.5-2009 para 2.7.5 and 3.3.23.
Thanks,
Ron
Thanks to everyone that answered. I was hoping that there might be a section that clearly defines this subject. I did see a section in Y14.5 that cover GD&T with type of features but noting for basic drawing practices.
I guess it will come down to best practices and clearly documenting the...
This is not a GD&T question, rather just basic dimensioning for clarity.
I reviewed a drawing of a plate with 4 rectangular cutouts in-line with each other. Cutouts are to reduce weight. The original drafter dimensioned edge of the first cutout only. I indicated that the dimension should have a...
Thanks KENAT and Scott for your responses.
I agree that the drawing falls under the category of a detailed assembly drawing or possibly an inseparable assembly.
I think I have found my answer in Y14.100-2004 para D-9.6 which states "Where more than one item is described on a drawing, unique...
I have some documents that have both an assembly p/n and machined component p/n. Is it acceptable per ASME Y14.100 to have the assembly use a base p/n and the machined part use a base p/n plus a suffix (-dash).
Example: Assembly p/n is ABC1234 and the Machined part uses p/n ABC1234-5.
Please...
Thanks. I can add that dimension. The sketch isn't exactly correct. The tooth doesn't have any straight edges. More of a light bulb shape which is why I was going to attach the datum to the profile edge.
I actually was just thinking about changing the control frame to three lines.
True...
I have a shaft that has five teeth equally spaced around the outside of the shaft. There is also a hole drilled thru the shaft perpendicular to the axis. The hole is used to index the shaft in reference to one of the teeth. The origin of this part dates back to the early 60's in which the print...
I currently have a system in place in which drawings are controlled either at an engineering level or at a production approved level.
When drawings are still in the engineering phase they can be update whenever needed without a formal approval signoff process. These drawings have an X# revision...
I think this thread is coming to an end. I would like to thank everyone that participated for their knowledge and insight on how things operate within their own organizations. Although we never did find any statement in the ASME specs, this thread did provide valuable information. I also have...
We have had a lot of good comments on this subject. I think the majority of my drawings are OK since there is the "Unless otherwise specified" in the format title block. Not saying this is the best way, just it is what it is. There are some that throw a little more verbiage that may cause a...
John-Paul,
I completely agree. My current plan is to update all of the drawing formats to have the tolerance field in the title block be a variable that need to added on each drawing. That way if the drawing has the format updated in the future for size, company logo, etc.. the tolerance will...
