Stress intensity factors / J integral

Thanks Is there a demonstration or trials version of ABAQUS available?

Stress intensity factors / J integral

Can anyone advise by your experience, which is the best software for crack propagation problems? That is; calculation of stress intensity factors using linear elastic fracture mechanics or elasto plastic fracture mechanics. Computationally effective with good manual (user guide examples) ? Thanks

    Plate problem- simple reasoning required

My Y rotation on nodes B and E was fixed. It otherwise reported instability error if ever I left the Y rotation free I don't get that. I just released the X rotation and made the condensed stiffness matrix. Yes, it had 0's in the corresponding rows and columns Yes, as I said above

Could it be the mesh sensitivity is different for two problems?

    Plate problem- simple reasoning required

Yes, X is parallel to AB You said Will it not be the same if I have no coincident nodes but a hinge (to release X rotation) at the location of the coincident node?

    Plate problem- simple reasoning required

This is a very simple problem using which I'm trying to validate my finite element code I have two plates Plate 1 and Plate 2. Plate 1 In this plate I connected elements ABEG and BCDF Nodes E and F are co-incident I connected E and F by rigid elements. I did NOT connect E and F for rotation...

Cantilever column with geometric non linearity

I have a cantilever column of length 1m. I have applied a lateral load of 200 kN uniformly distributed over the length of the column I have carried out a geometric non linear analysis and see that the (maximum deformed) statistics are as follows: -314.40 mm(translation X) 0.00...

Newmarks method for implicit dynamic analysis

I have used Newmark's method wherein my damping matrix was generated through a combination of mass and stiffness matrix (Rayleigh damping). IS it possible to use the Newmark's method if the damping matrix is non diagonal? Regards Ash

DNV2013 reduction in plastic moment capacity

Hi, I have been trying to interpret the physical reason of this clause in DNV2013. Link See link below Clause 606 equation 5.25. It calls for a reduction in the plastic moment capacity if the structural element has lateral point loads. I personally feel the reason for this clause is to...

    Eigen values- insight required

Hi, I know that one gets complex Eigen values when there is damping in the system. IS it possible that if the system is unstable, one gets complex values? I have got a structural system wherein I get complex Eigen values. The system is undamped.IT is stable. I would like to understand the...

    Crack near a window

msquared48; Why do you say "yes" if the crack is along the same diagonal was present on both sides of the window? I'm not able to understand why you say "yes"?

    Crack near a window

I'm sorry but I shall be happy if anyone can help me. IS it true, that if there is a crack near a window, then structurally, the length of the crack = actual length of the crack + length of the diagonal of the window. I'm not sure, if / how this is true?
