Design walkways on a steep slope

Dik: I imagined that I haven't managed to give the whole aspect of the crib wall's function, that's why I uploaded the last photo. However, it depends on the budget and on the site's regeneration scope,as well as on a good agronomist. In this case, in which ANgK wants to construct only a simple...

Design walkways on a steep slope

The photo I uploaded was because I would like to show another way of building crib walls. In your case the "one crib wall" way you mention would be the way if a crib wall structure was your final decision. Now, as for the planting, I think crib walls can provide you with some options. In...

Design walkways on a steep slope

It depends on how you want to shape your slope, how many walkways you want to build etc. Yes, the way you mentioned is one way. Another way is to build more than one crib walls

Design walkways on a steep slope

Well, given that it is very arid and that no structure will be constructed on the,and since that the slope's stability analysis shows that it is very stable, I think that a pile wall fixed within the bedrock will do the job.

Design walkways on a steep slope

First of all, where is the timber wall going to be fixed? Within the CH, SM or the bedrock? The third case, and with a right dimensioning, may be regarded as a possible scenario. However, I wouldn't advice the wall to be constructed within the CH or SM soil at all.

Design walkways on a steep slope

Ok, here are some things to have in mind. Loam as a soil generally is not the most water friendly geomaterial, which means that if for some reason a strong rainfall occurs (i.e 400mm overall precipitation height), let's say for two or three days, your slope will probably have a problem. I have...

Design walkways on a steep slope

A crib retaining structure will also be a good idea, especially if you want to combine it with shrubs.Do you know anything about the site's structural geology? Knowledge of the site's structural geology and stability is crucial.

Effect of foundation width of shear based bearing capacity

DMI.BE this is an interesting observation indeed. The phenomenon to which are referring here we geotechnical engineers call it "scale effect" and it is exactly the reduction of ultimate bearing capacity with the increase in foundation width. It is oftentimes the cause of underestimations...

    Foundation Design

Hi leonhardeuler. Did you include the depth of the water table in regards to the foundation. If you didn't you should, because we are talking about a coarse grained sand and you don't want to mesh it up with water when you have this kind of soil as friction is an essential factor regarding the...

    Bond strength - slide

Hi dtsk. I would advice you to use other programs if you want to check the global stability, for example RS2 from rocscience, or plaxis. They are more precise and they have better simulation abilities than slide does since they use FEM and they have the option for a 3d simulation as well. :)

    Pile cap question

Thank you guys! @Eirechch: I don't have a problem to upload a floor plan but I don't know whether it is allowed to do it here. The diameter of the piles is 0.6m, the length is about 6m, and the pile cap is 1m x 1m (each pile cap). Yes, I want to analyze the pile - soil interaction. @jayrod12...

    Pile cap question

Hello guys. I'd like to ask you a question regarding a pile foundation for a pavilion I am studying right now. After performing the analysis I ended up that I need 12 piles, one pile under each footing.Thing is though, I would like these 12 piles to be analyzed without a uniform pile cap for...

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

haha I didn't know about this movie. I will definitely watch it for the comedy part!Yet,in reality, most of the movie isn't true. We,as a nation, have nothing bad to say about the Germans when it comes to simple people, and personally me some times I have argued with people doing that (you see...

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

@IRStuff : My mistake my friend, wrong treaty!I apologize! It was not the vienna convention, the right one is the "United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide", signed in December 1948 and has been in force since January 1951...

@IRstuff : Thank you too my friend for your comment. You and CWB1 both helped me a lot in terms of the Healthcare system in the US! [smile]

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

@CWB1 : thanks a lot my friend for explaining more about the HC system there. It definitely helped me to gain more insight both in terms of simple knowledge as well as in terms of my future plans. I will have in mind everything you mentioned! [smile] @epoisses : I am not trying to convince...

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

@CWB1 : I can't say anything about the comparison of the two systems with precision if I don't know every single detail about both of them. For example, why do you believe that private healthcare system is cheaper than the socialized? You said you pay 400$ per month about your plan and that it...

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

@CWB1 : Private healthcare is somehow a "luxury", however, it is not what it makes our system cheap. Macroeconomicaly speaking, healthcare is a public good and creates economies of scale meaning that the more you provide, the lower the cost. Apart from that private institutions are after profits...

Migrating to Canada or USA from Greece (Geological/Mining/Metallurgical Engineer)

@CWB1 : Thank you very much for explaining further about the US healthcare system. I completely understand.I wish the best to your family, you're doing absolutely right, I would make my choices to offer the best to my family too. I understand what you wrote about the healthcare system there and...
