ACI318 for Anchor to Masonry Design?

I was looking through Hilti Masonry Anchor Design Guide and saw they are using ACI318 to design their anchors to masonry with a few modifications. https://www.hilti.com/content/dam/urgent-folder/w1/pdf/tech-guides/AC%2058_Anchor%20Design%20Guide.pdf This is my first time seeing it designed...

    Bowed Terra Cotta Basement walls

I came across an old early 1900 home, The basement wall is made from Terra Cotta. (I have looked around and perhaps it's called "Structural Clay tile"?) The issue is it's bowed inward. I'm not familiar with Terra Cotta basement foundation, especially bowed inward. I am looking for guidance...

    CFS Strap Brace Track Assumptions

I will be doing 2-sided strap brace because of the issue you just mentioned. Much cleaner with transfer of forces(less calculations) plus it helps with limiting the FL to FL drift. The sketch I attached was just a one standard detail I marked up. I have previously read the document you linked...

    CFS Strap Brace Track Assumptions

Designing a multistory Strap brace. When a track is in compression and the web of the track is connected to the diaphragm with studs spaced @ 24” o.c. does the track have to be designed for compression for the full length or can it at a shorter length? Example, in the attached picture, if he...

    Shop Drawings, No Calculation Package

Hi all! A Quick update, essentially what my boss told us to do was to check them, note whatever is obvious in addition to the calcs required. stamp it as reject and resubmit. To paraphrase what he said. Someone messed up and it's either the contractor or fabricator. They had all this time to...

    Shop Drawings, No Calculation Package

We usually wait till fabricators send the calc package to us or require them to resubmit them with the revised markups. But in this case, the project is on an extremely tight deadline, that they want us to stamp it "reviewed as noted" and are okay with us adding whatever language to the shops to...

    Shop Drawings, No Calculation Package

The company I work at we designed a steel building, and we are the EOR. We got the shop drawings for the steel building, but no calculation package. In our general notes we have the language of the details being standard details, and they need to have an engineer to design the connections. We...

    Cantilever Wood Diaphragm (W' +100')

I have a wood structure that has walls on 3 sides, I am designing it as a cantilever "Open Front Structure", it's open without any store front windows at the front end, so it's a partially enclosed structure. I usually do these by hand, but for this particular one, I wonder if the dimensions are...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

The owner is still determining how they want to precede. I will keep you guys posted once I hear from them and hopefully an end result with the wall removed/beam design. Luckly, we did a good due diligence on this project instead of assuming non-load bearing wall, definitely an eye opener. I do...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

Thanks all, this was a lot of help. I do want to apologies, I tried to edit the first post, but it looks like at a certain time period they don't allow the original posts to be edited. I wanted to make the changes and add the link there too. Also, to clarify, the intent was to remove the wall...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

This is one big issue on our end, it's way to difficult to determine what the material is, so we assumed SPF #2, there was no stamp of any sort to determine the lumber. It's a typical residential home in Michigan. It is that method that we are using. Haha. However, any new designs, we only pin...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

https://res.cloudinary.com/engineering-com/image/upload/v1651459751/tips/Truss_Analysis_p3gtor.pdf for the top chord, I have Le2 and Le-bend-top as 1 ft... Le1 and Le-bend-bot shouldn't matter in this case in my opinion because all my chords are modeled as individual members.

    Truss bearing point at interior?

I think I'm going to have to go this route, I analyzed multiple different ways, and shaved off a lot of load and still couldn't get it to work without the "wall" in my analysis. I really hate to have them add beams and columns throughout the location. I thought about this, but with every type...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

I got exact measurements and did a full analysis. The Truss is failing in my analysis. On site I stuck a very thin metal strip between the truss and wall. Two trusses had a small gap between them. All other trusses were bearing on half of the top plate, close to one edge. Went into the crawl...

    Liability due to separate reports

We had a call today from a contractor that asked if we could provide a report that addressed the city concerns and provide repairs. During the call, I mentioned that if we see other structural issues that were not noted by the city, we will have to note them down on the report too. Contractor...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

We had ran a quick analysis, but the measurements were approximates. I will get more info soon and run a more thorough analysis on the project. I will get that information soon too. We will also try to take pics at all the Joints*. sometimes it's just hard to get around certain attic...

    Truss bearing point at interior?

I want some opinions on this truss. It's an existing residential cathedral truss that spans only 30 feet. I am 99% sure that the reactions are on the outsides only, especially 30 feet isn't that long for a truss to span to both of its ends. The part I am unsure of is because of a vertical web...

Masonry Design In-Plane-Bending LRFD failure but ASD Passing

correct it is ran as an envelope. LC 17 does include the Axial load. it's .9*DL + 1*WL For strength. I had went back and forth with turning on and off the correct Load combinations for whichever way I changed the code check requirements. For ASD I unchecked the strength, for LRFD I unchecked the...

Masonry Design In-Plane-Bending LRFD failure but ASD Passing

I am not a risa 3d expert, so don't hold me to what I am about to say, but i think that even though risa 3d offers unreinforced wall check, the program still analysis using steel at the boundry layers. this is why I get a Fs = 32 ksi, I am ignoring that and only using fb = 0.032 ksi (32psi) and...

Masonry Design In-Plane-Bending LRFD failure but ASD Passing

I think there is, it's the fb =.032 ksi. When i did my hand calculation, for ft= Mc/I, I'm getting about 40.17 lb/in2 which is about .040ksi Unless I am incorrectly assuming fb=ft=Mc/I.
