Also need to consider whether it is a new site or with existing grid elsewhere adjacent.
More control required if interfacing with existing earth grid.
All I can find online is good thing about them, any disadvantages from your experience?
- how long do they last in outdoor condition? UV resistant? water resistant?
- did you ever have to replace them?
- how toxic do they burn under fire?
- are they better for larger transformers or smaller?
Time for fuses to blow is much slower than proper breaker. The scale of damage will be worse.
I am not familiar with fuses of these sizes but do they have to be replaced after each operation like distribution fuses?
If yes then you probably want to make sure you have spares handy, and of the...
I agree with thermionic1 about the agreement between the owner and OEM - there is usually some sort of arrangement in place.
My believe is that soak test is to :
1. allow the entire volume of oil to slowly circulate through within the transformer and;
2. allow oil to soak through the...
Thank you David, it is Dyn 33/11kV and will have full transformer differential protection and you are right there will be no protection, HV breaker's overcurrent is set very high to tackle in rush so won't react either.
Thought so too about 2nd soak... hmm...
Having picked up Sciences and Physics throughout my high school years and finally graduated with a BE in electrical, and working in engineering field, I personally struggle with the industry itself. Being a female working in power systems in a region where farming is still the main industry has...
New transformer usually go through soak test (as in no load) for a couple of hours before load is introduced. The tests that I have seen are energized from HV, leaving downstream LV switch open (of course, both HV and LV winding will be energized).
Recently there is a proposal from a...
If the cables are to be installed in earthquake prone area then the movement of the concrete during a seismic event may need to be considered - probably more applicable for cables installed in ducts directly encased within concrete.
