    vibrations in structures

i am talking in terms just generating natural frequency through the software to check for any magnification potential

    vibrations in structures

WARose what extent of modelling would you do in staad would you stop at the 4 perimeter columns or model entire structure levels above and below?

    Retaining Wall Shear Key

this is a good thread on the matter IBC 2009 1807.2.1 Retaining Wall Keyway https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=332224

    Retaining wall toe design

i think its for the tension stresses travelling around the bend to be resisted by the resultant compressive force formed by the outside of the wall and the top of the toe meeting at the joint as well as not having to loop the bar amongst other factors have you experience in looping bars ...

    Retaining wall toe design

or possibly design to the efficiency of whatever detail chosen

    Retaining wall toe design

Yea in one of the threads a guy recommends adding even a foot of toe but it is also recommended that after the stem bar bends into the toe, there is enough horizontal length to lap with the toe horizontal. This can not happen in 1ft so im not sure if there is increased efficiency adding 1ft toe...

    Retaining wall toe design

@BAretired i agree that reinforcement detail doesn't show the length of the stem reinforcement into the toe Also there can be no diagonal bar to help with the cracking at the tension face of the wall meeting the footing Worse issues when there is no toe either, heh do you have any detailing...

    Retaining wall toe design

Yes the drawing is not the actual full reinforcement drawing there will be bars in the key for sure i hope @BARetired ok so your calculation with the stem weight moment about a is now reducing the 1000 from your earlier calculation to 800 which is more towards the stem moment... so the design...

    Recommendation for Structural Analysis Program

dozer i havent experimented with much but i tried the trial for etabs 18 i think? and before you would have to do as you say and split up say one beam into 4 elements to accomodate connecting beams i found now the program knows that the beams are connected to the one member Either way if your...

Concentrated Load on continuous one way slab to supporting beams

@retired13 when you say not worry do you mean neglect it and no extra reinformcement is needed there?

    Retaining wall toe design

wall dimensions also 4ft it seems

Concentrated Load on continuous one way slab to supporting beams

i mean as shown that area is very small less than 1ftx1ft

    Retaining wall toe design

if equilibrium required wouldnt the stem need to be now reinforced for the higher moment then active pressure?

Concentrated Load on continuous one way slab to supporting beams

how do you get the stiffness at a point with different loading scenarios? Stiffness for a point load at the center is 48EI/L^3. If another point load added at center stiffness remains same. Deflection can be added for superposition but what about stiffness is stiffness increasing at a point the...

Concentrated Load on continuous one way slab to supporting beams

hi retired13 can you recommend any literature with this analysis?
