Mv and Lv switchgear in the same switchroom

Hello, We are in the uk and there is a proposal for a new switchroom to contain both 11kv and 415v switchgear. Are there any standards that say these should be in separate rooms or separated with a barrier of some kind as I understand that you do not want non mv qualified staff being able to...

    Trimble (Amtech) question

Hello, I have a question about diversity and load utilisation factor with Trimble software. Say we have a 3ph 400v 150kW load with 0.8 pf which gives 187.5 kVA and we also have a diversity of 0.8 and a load utilisation factor of 0.9. Applying these factors we will end up with a kVA of 135kVA...

Data network extension to a field jb

Thanks for the reply. It would just be to connect the remote buildings to the existing intranet. So if we had a switch in a main building and ran a fibre out to a JB then this could allow the remote building to connect to the intranet or would we need a field mounted panel inclusive of a switch...

Data network extension to a field jb

Hello, I have a question regarding the extension of a data network. If we have a building with a data network and we wish to extend this network to a field junction box that will then allow approx 5 temporary buildings to connect to the data network. Would we need a small outdoor panel with a...

    Extension of a data network

Thank you for the replies. I understand now, we would take a fibre from the existing switch to the new location and install a new switch here. We would then connect our devices ( computers, voip phones etc) into this new switch. Thanks again

    Extension of a data network

Hello, I have a question regarding extending an existing data network to a new building. If there is only one data point required in the new building would a switch still be installed ? Is there another way to take the existing network to a connection point in the new building ? Thanks

    Cable grouping (circuits/cables)

Hello, With regards to Trimble software for bs7671 cable sizing. I understand that a three phase circuit (No neutral) is one circuit and this can be achieved by 3 single core cables. Say for a “box” we have 5 single cables in parallel per phase (15 cables total) in Trimble for grouping purposes...

    Feeder pillars

Hello, I have a question regarding feeder pillars. When are these units best used, is it solely based on length of cable run ( e.g to save long runs) or are there other factors to consider? Thanks

    extension of site data network.

Hello, There is a project to put in a new building and we will have to tie into the existing data network. I know we will need to provide a new switch in the new building but my question is how to tie this into the existing site network? Would this be by fibre cabling to a spare port on the...

    Feeder cable sizing bs7671

Thanks for this. Just to be clear. From my second post. If we have three 100kw machines then the supply to each one of these must be rated for 100kw. The feeder cable supplying the building housing the machines may take into consideration that these machines will not all be running at the same...

    Feeder cable sizing bs7671

Hello, I have a further query related to this topic if that’s ok. Say we have have three machines each rated at 100kw at full load. From the information I have there is diversity and load Ultilisation applied. This lowers the three machines and the third machine load figure is extremely small. I...
