Hello,
I've never used Pipes with A53 Gr.B Steel for structural purposes, only A500, but a cliente has a supplier who sells these Pipes and he wants to use It.
I saw that the AISC Spec. considers A53 Gr.B as one of the HSS approved steels. My question is if there are some restrictions to...
Hello,
Does someone can tell me where i find some literature which describes the deductions of the equations for design of single angles under bending shown in the AISC spec.?
Thanks in advance.
Hello chris3eb,
Thanks for your opinion but i don't think that the current approach is more conservative that the approach i posted. If you look at the chart with the proposed curves, all of them converge to Mp at Lp.
P.S.: The charts show M as a funcion of λ instead of L but the principle is...
In the Link below, he shows the derivation of the equations.

Hello,
I always had a problem with the derivation of the length Lr in AISC spec. (Which is exactly equal to the Brazilian code). I never understood why the factor Cb is not considered in the calculation of Lr, since Lr is defined as the length at which Mcr= Mr.
I Friend of mine, which is a...
Hello,
The brazilian code for steel structures references the AISC's DG01 for base plate calculations and i've used it extensively, but the DG01 doesn't adress the case of stiffened base plates (At least the version that i have). I know some papers who describe methodologies for these base...
I have another question about this connection related to the hinge location. For steel connections, we have a lot of freedom to determine the flow of loads, since we guarantee equilibrium and nowhere the structure is above plastic limit, according to the lower bound theorem.
In the software...
Thanks again, Kootk.
Both. The machinery is very expensive and most companies won't have it, except for big companies which build a lot of tall buildings and there are not much of them, since most tall buildings here are made of concrete. Some companies will use fillet welds for the studs but...
Thanks Kootk.
Just for context, when you say "deformed bar anchor", is it a bar produced specifically for the purpose of anchorage and different from the bars used for concrete reinforcement, or they are the same bar but the word rebar is applicable only in the case of reinforcement?
As for...
Thanks ENGIRL and KootK for the answers.
In this case, i can design the bolts or the anchors for the moment created by the eccentricity. I consider best to design the bolts for the eccentricity.
Yeah, KootK, i'm aware of the ACI provisions but and will consider them but my question is...
Hello,
I started recently designing for a company and was asked to design some shear connections between steel beams and precast concrete columns. The connection is very simple, composed of a two plates welded as a T at which are welded weldable rebars to be inserted in the precast columns, as...
Thank you guys for you answers.
I asked this question only because of curiosity and not because i have a need to weld A193 Gr. B7 steel. I ended up reading the thread and saw the response but couldn't find the specific clause and asked here.
