    Inert gas flow calculation error

Thanks for the response, well the pipes have been re-routed at the site and now we are stuck in this iteration error! I guess we are left with no choice instead go ahead with the current pipe sizes and contact Vds for support.

    Inert gas flow calculation error

Hello Members, My query is related to the inert gas flow calculation error, while running the calculation I got an error as "Iteration not successful". Can anyone guide me on how to tackle this? and may I know what exactly this error signifies?

Gas Extinguishing System vs. power supply cut-off

I don't see the point in cutting the power supply if you are designing the gas suppression system for class C hazards. However necessary action shall be taken to shut down the HVAC and to activate the fire damper.

    Firewater tank capacity.

Hello Members, Could anyone please guide me in considering the exact size of a firewater tank, as per my calc the min storage capacity is 227.10m3 (60,000 gals). My concern is don't we need to consider some clearance for the PRV line, test line and some clearance for the water overflow. As per...

Fire Suppression System used in Low Current Rooms and Single LV Panel Rooms

If it's a single LV panel you could consider the clean agent panel flooding system/direct or indirect low-pressure system. Firetrace and Rotarex are some of the manufacturers in this field. https://www.firetrace.com/passive-fire-suppression-system...

Probe type heat detection for outdoor transformer

Hello Members, For a substation project, our client demands probe-type heat detection and fusible bulb (sprinklers/QBD) detection for the transformer. Could anyone please guide me on how to design this probe type heat detection for an outdoor transformer? I couldn't get much info from the...

Expansion Joints for inert gas piping

@MJCronin Well that was fast!! I am not sure whether a newbie has written the project specification. We have raised this query to our client, let me see what their reply is.

Expansion Joints for inert gas piping

@MJCronin No, the piping routed in the protected room is usually maintained at 21 degrees Celcius. The protected room is a switchgear room.

Expansion Joints for inert gas piping

@FacEngrPE Thanks for the advice, will look into it.

Expansion Joints for inert gas piping

@MJCronin From my experience, I have not come across any piping expansion loops for inert gas piping. Project specification calls for this requirement.

Water demand Calculation for sprinkler system and Standpipe system with separate risers

Hello All, I am a bit confused while calculating water demand for sprinklers and standpipe system which has separate risers, do I need to calculate both demands (standpipe & sprinkler) separately and add both demands? Because only in combined system NFPA 13 & 14 says to consider the largest...

Reducer Bush Fitting for Inert gas agent piping

Hi All, Could anyone please advise whether a reducer bush is allowed in inert gas piping because for halocarbons in most of the manufacturer manuals reducer bush is not recommended, this data I couldn't find in the inert gas manuals. Can anyone please share with me some references stating why...

    Mill tolerance for ASME B31.1

Hi All, Finally got some reference from the Shell DEP standard, the corrosion allowance has been reduced to a minimum value so that we could maintain Sch 80 pipe. Thank you all for your replies.

    Mill tolerance for ASME B31.1

Thank you everyone for the replies. I've got to stick to the Sch 80 pipe as I have no option here! As I have mentioned above the corrosion allowance considered is 1.6mm (input given by our client) our pipe material is galvanized ASTM A106 Gr B pipe, could anyone please advise if I can reduce...

    Mill tolerance for ASME B31.1

Thank you all for the response, here my application is to find the pipe thickness for clean agent system piping (clean agent system is a gaseous suppression system to extinguish fire), our piping is subjected to short periods of higher design pressure hence the para 102.2.4 of ASME B31.1 is...
