    Random X-Ray and B31.3 compliance.

It seems a bit gray to me even with the interpretations. The RT is applicable to weld 17. Spool number 4 with the remaining 5 welds is to be x-rayed and then hydrotested with out a doubt in my mind. However I know spools 1-3 do not have any applicable examinations pending. So I was thinking I...

    Random X-Ray and B31.3 compliance.

Scenario: Taking a subset of welds, hydrotesting them, placing them in service, and then later conducting x-ray examination of a predetermined weld. Is this practice code-compliant according to ASME B31.3?We are the owner-operator and are considering four spools for four different pieces of...

Temporary chem cleaning pipe for refinery shut down prep

Considering b31.3 when using a chemical cleaning service for a units equipment before a shut down. Often we will have to make temporary pipe to support the service contractor. This pipe will most probably only used once due to unique configurations. How ever the pipe will be under process...

Consensus on maximum hydro-test pressure under circumstances (B31.3)

Unfortunately no. This post references issues from multiple instances. However I do think it's worth mentioning often we deal with new to old pipe. So I'll have to dig into API 570

Consensus on maximum hydro-test pressure under circumstances (B31.3)

Situation: Currently we are being forced to follow a hydro-test procedure that derives its test pressures from the maximum allowable pressure the flange class can handle. This causes issues when the flange and butt joints tie into threaded connections. This problem along with others such as...

    B31.3 hydro testing location clarification

r6155 I appreciate your help. I was looking in a 2012 copy. However this still leaves me in a position of discretion rather than absolution. Considering the code does permit the reassembly after testing but only cautions you to consider additional leak tests.

    B31.3 hydro testing location clarification

r6155 I don't see a (f345). You statements below are they opinion or is there code that mentions the reassembly of flanges. Thanks

    B31.3 hydro testing location clarification

Considering B31.3 345.1 required leak test. Before initial operation a leak test is to be performed to insure tightness. Seemingly this leads me to believe a hydro should be performed in place as final install. However 345.2.3 tells me subassemblies can be tested separately or as assembled. I...
