My guess is it steel cement silos for a concrete batching plant. If so and if not considered permanent works perhaps all the usual investigations and checks are not in place.
That looks like a big span, how many metres is it? How many block courses is the lintel? Interesting to know if the design is on the engineer's drawings or a standard detail from the block supplier.
If you have a deep pilecap and your pile cut off is significantly lower than ground level then you can still pour say 1.2m above cut off level (up to the top of the starter bars) and then fill the empty bore above with gravel. When you excavate the additional concrete/concrete bentonite mix will...
Retrograde, so in this case I have will have the piling platform say 300mm above finished ground level (FGL). The casing will be driven to the same level as the piling platform. That gives me about 300mm to break out. I am not sure that is enough, but what you are suggesting is that I keep...
I m looking for an online resource that will start me off on a guideline i am starting to make. I want to find out the typical base chemicals that are used in both concrete plasticisers and retarders (my expectation being that a retarder for example could be based on 2 or 3 different chenicals)...
On large diameter bored piles i typically see piles overcast (i.e. the concrete placed say 1.2m above cut off level) this pushes out any concrete mixed at the top with polymer and also covers the rebar at the top of the pile protecting it during excavation. This usually works out well because a...
I have worked on various prestressed structures over the years and I am now working on a large LNG Tank. I am wondering about not using a specialist post tensioning company but inststead do the prestressing with our own resources. We can buy all the materials including anchorages. The equupment...
Would it be reasonable, as a rule of thumb, to define the presence of marine clay as a clay soil where the SPT value N = 0. The reason for this question is to determine the likelihood of Negative skin friction. We have consolidated soils but it is difficult to show that further consolidation and...
I have a foundation about 3m deep which I want to excavate open cut. I have space available around the excavation so do not need to add the expense of an earth support system. But how to calculate a safe angle for the stability of the excavated face. The excavation is in sand and I plan to use...
I am interested in board members views about concrete cover and construction joints.
Over the years if the drawings show either a column penetrating into a slab or beam or a bored pile penetrating into a pilecap I would allow the horizontal bars to sit directly onto the construction joint...
Ah.. but what if the pile has to be 80' long and your piling rig can only handle a 40' pile. Then you could order 2 x 40' piles and weld the joint after one has been driven into the ground.
Not sure that you can have general notes as each job will be different. Would suggest that you state the dimensions of the studs, profile of the sheets and then add some information taken from the following link...
Faisal45, I have never seen wash boring carried out for a pile of this diameter (in fact for any diameter of pile, I have only seen wash boring for soil invetsigation).
What is the process? I understand you have a full depth casing and you need to advance that (by wash boring) but what is the...
The pile section selected will probably depend as much on the structural design as on the installation requirement. Is there going to be an excavation and the sheet pies are providing excavation support?
A vibro seems a good option but jacking tbe sheet piles would be a quieter way.
I don't see...
I think the slump is low for a pump mix and would suggest 150mm +/- 25mm at the point of discharge from the truck.
I don't think it is realistic to use a spec that says 100mm slump and then to say that the testing point is after pumping. The trial mixes will have to be carried out at a batching...
Zanoter4,
thank you for tbe response.
Are you talking about tall industrial chimneys for petrochem plants? which code do you follow to get 95mm2? Is the stranded copper PVc insulated? At the top of the chimney is it coated to protect it from the fumes (lead coated?)
How do you spece the...
VE1BLL, length to width ration doesn't sound right, do you mean width to thickness?
MiketheEngineer, unfortunately not using a lightning protection system is not an option here.
