There are many good reasons to use "I-DEAS Library Data" export, found under File -> Export.
And there's also good reasons to not use Model Files to Export and Import data.
To uphold the Master Model principal and retain associativity between different versions of the same data I'd recommend...
It's a macro that is "run" once you have started I-DEAS so you can store it anywhere you have access to from your I-DEAS session. I'd suggest your home directory.
Then start up I-DEAS and with a model file open select File, Program Files, Run and then browse for the stored file.
Reference Specific is looking at that explicit version of the part. Reference Latest looks at the series of the part so that if an updated version appears on the TDM you have an option to update to it.
The drawback of relfecting 2D is that the constraints are not reflected as well so the result is non-constrained.
Would it not be easier to Sketch half, Extrude/Sweep/Loft/etc. half and then reflect in 3D so that everything is constrained?
You have to use the menus to get to the Reorder Feature operation as it is not avaialable in the icons.
Select the feature you wish to "move" and with the menus on (Ctrl+M) select Modify, Special Techniques, Reorder Feature.
Alternatively you can type the mnemonic:-
/mo spe reo
In the prompt...
My knowledge of Feature Based Translators is limited, however from what I have seen of them they will not give you a result that is the equivalent of modelling the part in the receiving system.
The translator does attempt to rebuild each feature in the history of the model, but each time there...
I-DEAS doesn't use the Parasolid Kernel, so I'm afraid you're left with Neutral file format translators which will leave you with an Orphan solid/surface in I-DEAS.
Does the client stipulate they must receive back a history supported model(s)? If so you really ony have one option.
It's not just the package filename that must be free of spaces but also the Directory path to where the Package file is sitting on you HD. ie. if it's in "My Documents" it won't work.
Within Master Drafting there's a 2D Clean option in the file menu and under that you'll find Purge Symbol.
To move geometry from one Drawing to another the easiest way is via a symbol.
Define Symbol
Select Entities (max 10,000)
Define Origin
Name Symbol
Export Symbol
Into New Drawing and...
To determine if the problem is with I-DEAS or the receiving system try re-importing the DXF into I-DEAS, if it come in then the DXF is OK, just not compatible with the receiving system. If that's the case then play with the export settings to try and get a file that works for the other system...
Using the Master Drafting Workbench
Get the Drawing file from the "Bin" on to the Workbench so that you can see the Drawing in the Graphics Window
File -> Export -> DXF
Note what Directory the File is being written into, select OK.
Go find the file.
If the machine they were created on was a PC also running I-DEAS 11NX then you should just be able to select the *.mf1 when as you Model File when you start I-DEAS or Open Model File.
Are you experiencing performance issues with other installed software? If no then not likeley to be a Hardware issue.
Are you sure you have a real performance issue rather than a perceived one? Are you able to do some timing comparissons for the same operations between your machine and another...
Hi Amocs,
A "Stamping" ball corner, unfortunately can't be produced in one hit in GSD, that I've worked out any how.
So let the fillets run in together naturally then take a sketch roughly normal to the corner, project up the fillet tans and then 2D fillet/corner them off so you've got...
There's not really much "processiing" happening when bringing data in and out the Libraries.
And since your TDM is local there should not be much to slow you down.
The only thing I can think of is have you got Team Compression on. By default it's off, if it's on then the data has to be...
Last question first, I don't believe I-DEAS can be forced to recycle entity IDs. However, this is not an explanation for increasing file size.
Additionally the size of the IGES file is not a good judge of the size of the Native I-DEAS file. By Default the IGES translation will just translate...
There's no direct route from a Gif or JPeg (or any Raster Image for that matter). If you have it in a Vector file then you stand a chance, dependant upon format.
Ideal would be Vector -> IGES and into Master Modeller.
Not so Ideal would be Vector -> DWG/DXF -> Master Drafting -> IGES -> Master...
