Advice on textiles, composites and castings.

That's a good point as well. I did ask one of our strap suppliers about tolerances and they came back with +/- 2% to +/- 3% which kind of makes sense. So the tolerance block might look something like this in mm: 0.0 to 24.99 ±1.00 25.00 to 99.99 ±3.00 100.00 to 299.99 ±5.00...

Advice on textiles, composites and castings.

Looking at your resume, you know exactly what we are talking about!!! Thanks, Glenn Wilkins, CSWP,CSWP-SMTL Colchester, VT

Advice on textiles, composites and castings.

Sheet metal in SolidWorks is very powerful. I was checking out some of the solution partners like was suggested above and there are a couple other forming applications that might work as well. Fascinating stuff. But what I could really use a hand with is some sample pattern drawings...

Advice on textiles, composites and castings.

All, My company makes ballistic protective eyewear for the military. We are expanding our product line to head, face and neck protection. This creates some new challenges when it comes to SolidWorks and documenting our designs. I'm hoping some of you can offer suggestions to help us with a...

    All Around Surface Finish Symbol

Actually, ASME Y14.36M-1996 says "Surface Texture Symbols" but I know what you mean. [thumbsup2] Thanks. Glenn Wilkins, CSWP,CSWP-SMTL Hazelett Strip-Casting Corp. Colchester, VT

    All Around Surface Finish Symbol

"I am told that I am too narrow and literal in my interpretation." Hence the name "CheckerRon"!! Excellent information gentlemen. I'm guessing SolidWorks has a very large customer who has an internal standard for this symbol and they "strongly suggested" that SW add it to the drafting...

    All Around Surface Finish Symbol

In SolidWorks they give us an option for finish symbol with an "all around" modifier. Yet the shop has never seen this before and the ASME/ANSI Y14.36M does not show it. I really like the symbol because I can point to an edge of a feature with it and this tells the machinist that the entire...

New in 2006 - Mirroring Parts

Not the answer I was hoping for but thank you anyway.

New in 2006 - Mirroring Parts

For those of you who are running SW2006, it has been rumored that we can now mirror a part and have all the features go with it AND have the option of breaking the link back to the original. Any truth to this?

    Weldment Question

Maybe I'm missing something, but we do this all the time. We create fabrications (weldments) and then machine them to a finished part. The first thing you do when creating a weldment is to hit the "Weldment" icon to establish this part as a weldment. Then model your part as it is welded...

    Tapped hole in round part

I used Corb's method but first I created a plane tangent to the curve at the location I needed the hole. Then I make the hole wizard point coincident to the plane. Then I was able to measure from one end to further constrain it. There probably are other ways, too.

    Tapped hole in round part

I created a surface tangent to the cylinder and then used that surface to place the hole. I've always been under the impression that you had to have a plane or flat surface to create a sketch. Apparently not.

    Tapped hole in round part

Holy sh$t. I didn't think that was possilbe. Just tried it. Thanks!

    Tapped hole in round part

I am using SW2005 SP2. But this has been a problem forever. All the annotation settings are on. When you create the hole using the hole wizard, you will get an error saying that the cosmetic thread cannot be created. I created a plane tangent to the surface of the cylinder and place the hole...

    Tapped hole in round part

Thanks, I have done that in the past but I had forgotten. I still thinks SW should fix that.

    Tapped hole in round part

Trying to put a tapped hole in a round part. However, there is no surface for the cosmetic thread to be created. In the past I have created a c-bore at the diameter and depth necessary for the cosmetic thread to work. But this isn't a true representation of what I want. It also makes it...

    Dual Dimensioning Standards

I have a different question on the same theme. When you are dual dimensioning with GD&T, what do you put for a tolerance in the feature control frame? ie: A hole, 1.00"/25.4mm is located with a positional tolerance. What should the tolerance be? inch? metric? both?

    PDMWorks - bind ownership function

PDMWorks is a must. The hardest part is deciding project structure and whether to use lifecycles or not. Keep it simple at first. Do it as soon as you can.
