    ASTM stamped material

Eabrar, Watch out with the standard EN10204 (the 2.1, 3.1.B and 3.1.c. certificates referred to by bmoorthy). This standard and certificates only state that the material was sampled, tested and inspected according the specification of the material which you have ordered. So NOT manufactured...

Welding of SS 321 and SS 304

Eabrar, Watch out with just replacing ER-308 with ER-321. Er-308 is slightly more overmatching in Cr than ER-321. So watch out that your welding procedure is OK and you do not loose too much corrosion resistance on your tubesheets because of dilution (I suppose the tubesheet baseplate is...

    Welding to a codes vessel?

11echo, The best way to find out is asking your AI. As you would weld on a non-pressure part it would, in my opninion, not affect the stamping, but as I said, the best way to find out is asking your AI.

    duplex ASME VIII div. 2

metengr, I know the limitations of duplex SS: low temperature toughness and possible embrittlement at long exposure time to temperatures around and above 475°C. But is this a reason not to incorporate this into ASME VIII div. 2? In Div. 1 f.e. the use of UNS 31803 is also limited to 600°F.

    duplex ASME VIII div. 2

Isthill, UNS31803 among all the others; in table AHA-1 there is not one duplex stainless steel mentioned. Only austenitic and some martensitic and ferritic stainless steels.

    duplex ASME VIII div. 2

Does anybody know why duplex stainless steels aren't allowed/mentioned in ASME VIII div. 2? Is there a specific technical reason for or hasn't anybody had the need for that?

ASME SECTION VIII, DIV. 1 UCS 66(c)

In addition to what Metengr said I would like to add the following: ferrous and ferritic are no synonims: ferrous just means an alloy with iron in it. ferritic means a ferrous alloy with a body centered cubic crystal lattice. So SA105 is ferrous and ferritic and f.e. SA240-316 is ferrous but...

Procedure Qual. & Pressure Equipment Directive

Dar, Indeed, your welding has to be witnessed and approved by a NoBo or recognised third party. Most Notified Bodies will accept ASME IX PQR's and WPQ's. BUT, please note that the PED is a legislation and not a code or a standard. This means that all the relevant essential safety...
