    Job Outlook For Electrical Engineers

I just left my career as a paralleling generator/switchgear tech at 47years old to finish my BSEE too. Not so much for the money as the job challenge.

gen kw & kvar sharing problem

Also change the fuel filters, could have some trash from the install in them. Is the differential consistant in that the same gen pushes more kW each instance?

    4160 phase rotation verification

Thanks Mike. This particular commissioning is a bit of an oddball startup in that there is an old G&W oil filled transfr switch (approx 1977 vintage)that will be staying in service. Normally we would supply the switchgear with the genset and I would have have a twisted pair of biasing lines that...

    4160 phase rotation verification

If I have a window of 2 to 3 seconds when the two sources are synchronized and passing zero volts, which is entirely possible with these controls, and two, or best case all three utility to gen readings are close to identical, won't that prove it? regards, Brian

    4160 phase rotation verification

Thanks Fellas, the genset going in has a very accurate gov controller, I'm reasonably certain I can get it drifting very slowly and get a reading on two or maybe all three when they pass 0v simultaneously. I enjoy reading this forum, the information is great. Brian

    4160 phase rotation verification

Hello all: I am putting a new 4160V diesel genset in service on an existing med voltage transfer switch. To verify phase rotation I have a 25kV meter with two probes. I plan on reading utility A to gen A and so on with B and C, watching them go to zero volts as they drift in and out. If all...

    Generator exitation

One other thing, you should see F1 and F2 designations on the wires that you are applying the battery voltage to. They will be connected at the voltage regulator as the output.Your earlier post mentioned you were measuring input to the avr, this test is temporarily replacing the avr. Be sure you...

    Generator exitation

If you have "flashed the field" with a battery and you saw no increase at all in output voltage at the main stator then you have pretty well ruled out the regulator or PMG (assuming your battery voltage didn't drop to near zero when you connected it). Even at 6 volts you would see a rise in...

Sine wave distortion on paralleled Gensets

I have three gensets recently installed at a facility with mainly UPS and other electronic loads. They are identical 2000kW sets paralleled to a common emergency bus. The utility transformer feeding the facility is rated at 7500kVA. When the bldg load is powered by the utility transformer there...
