    Minimum number of bolts

I would never use just one bolt for a gravity load-carrying connection, but for a beam seat on masonry, for example, where the bolt only provides a "lateral tie", such as the Simpson GLB beam seat, one bolt would be feasible.

    Levees in New Orleans

Cajun- sorry, my dyslexia acting up again. 80% of NO, not Louisiana. I can't wait to hear what Bill Maher has to say about all this.

    Levees in New Orleans

Cajun- CNN stated 80% of the population voted Democratic (I failed to mention that). If Bush carried the state, probably because the voting machines were rigged anyway (sarcasm) "Lack of competent leadership is the real cause of the lack of response for the people in the gulf coast."...

    Timber rafter ceiling joist connection

I have to keep repeating this over and over (it's pathetic, I need a life)...When you are doing your cases , you are getting an incorrect tension in bottom chord, due to the conversion of UDL to nodal loads. Merely a schoolboy exercise.

    Levees in New Orleans

On CNN News, it was mentioned that the failure of the Feds to move quickly was due to the fact that 80% of the population voted Democratic. Next time a Democratic-leaning state gets hit by a disaster, tornado, hurricane or otherwise, maybe they should change the name of their state to Iraq!

How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Gasoline jumped from $2.98/gal to $3.19 yesterday. Maybe it is time to buy a motorcycle.

    Splcie joint in ALuminum member!

Sleeve is located at point of inflection. It is necessary to have the sliding capability since the floor deflect at differnet magnitude, and aluminum has large coefficient of thermal expansion.

    Timber rafter ceiling joist connection

It would be interesting to contemplate that if there ever was a failure, the plantiff's engineer would really seize upon this fact.

    full depth blocking at eaves

JAE, We almost always use full depth blocking, with 3 - 2 inch diameter holes for ventilation. For steel joists, always either an "inverted" 2.5"x2.5" angle or 2.5" HSS as "blocking".

    Timber rafter ceiling joist connection

I agree with PBA - your explanation is very clear. I drew this thing out - including the 4:12 slope triangle. It is really obvious that in order to solve this problem, first turn off the computer, get a pencil, calculator, and common sense. Reaction = 54x17/2=459 lbs Tension in ceiling joist =...

    Trig function table

To streamline your input, have an input cell that defines what knowns are being input, similar to the triangle solver that IRstuff provided a link for. That input cell could be set up with data validation for 1,2,3,4 for the 4 different combiination types of input known data. The function CHOOSE...

    Highrise Residential - Concrete

A major factor is story height. Architects need it minimized, which flat plate concrete slab, PT or non-PT is at an advantage.

How to sort automatically by using functions?

SacreBleu, You mentioned removal of zero values - I did a search of this forum and could not find any results. Could you give me some guidance?

What wind loads on building canopy?

I agree with SacreBleu...if he is speaking of an open canopy, away from any building. dik... your comment is valid, especially the phenomenom of pressure equilibrium.

How to sort automatically by using functions?

Here is another possibility: http://www.exceltip.com/st/Ranking_Salespeople_According_To_Sales_Figure/846.html IMPORTANT: Read the comments at the bottom of the web page - it has corrections to errors submitted by a reader. Instead of the names Mike, Donna, David, etc., replace with SL34...
