Which Element to model STEEL CABLE? Please help!

Using Truss element to model cable is hard to converge often. -Jerry

Which Element to model STEEL CABLE? Please help!

Hello, MyMyers/All, Forgot to ask you one more Q: If the Steel Cable is mainly to sustain Axial Tension but can bear little or no bending moment, is there any special Element I should choose? ALso, should I set the cable material to have a small Young's Modulus to achieve this? Thanks again. Jerry

Which Element to model STEEL CABLE? Please help!

Hello, Deal All, Can anybody give me some hints which type of elements I should use to model Cable in ABAQUS? The cable could have different stiffness. Should I just use different E (Young's modulus) values to simulate this different stiffness? Thanks a lot.

Problem with 2 Separate Meshes in CFX!

Hello, Deal all, I have a CAD model with two components which share the same interface but have separate meshes. After I import the two meshes into CFX, how should I define the interface? Should I choose the Turbomachinery or General type of simulation? I tried to define the interface as Frozen...

Nodal Force Check Error in ANSYS. Thanks

Thanks cbrn. I guess you are right: the force load may come from the CFX part as I solve the fluids part first.

Nodal Force Check Error in ANSYS. Thanks

Hello, all, I am doing some structure (flexible pipe)-fluid coupling using ANSYS and CFX. After I set up the structure part of problem in ANSYS Prep7, I check the load definition by :List->Load->Force->On All Nodes, and find there are some non-zero values shown (under both Real & Imaginary)for...

How to get longitudinal and circumferential stress and strain results?

Thanks Brian for your always helpful tips. I actually did try CSYS to change the active coordinate system. But there were some problems: 1) My structure is tube with multiple asymmetric branches, and they don't have global X, Y or Z axis and origin as well; 2) Whether I used a predefined...

How to get longitudinal and circumferential stress and strain results?

Hello all, I did some structural analysis in ANSYS, and Cartesian coordinate system was used. I got all the stress and strain results in Cartesian system (the X, Y, Z components), could any people here advise how to translate them to Cylindrical components in ANSYS Postprocessing, i.e. get...

How to change Lengend Scale of Deformation Contour Plot in ANSYS?

Thanks Brian for the /CONTORE command. The resolution fot my PC is 1024x768. WHen I made animation, I use: PlotCtrls->Animate->Over Time->Animation Frames #:250; Time Range: 0~1 sec; Auto Scaling: on; Animation Time Delay: 0.5 sec. Like I said, when I made the contour plot for each individual...

How to change Lengend Scale of Deformation Contour Plot in ANSYS?

Hello, all, Can any expert tell me how to change the Legend Scale of Deformation Contour Plot in ANSYS? Also, when I made some transient animation, the resolution is much worse than the contour plot for each individual time step. Any hint to fix it? Thanks a lot. Jerry

How to define two nodes with the same DOF?

Thanks all. Yes it worked. But actually I used the "CE" command instead, and it worked like a charm. Sweet. Jerry

ANSYS default variables (parameters) and functions.

Thanks brian. Bascially I want to get all the labels used in ANSYS. I know some of them like basic ones like UX, ROTX,VOLT, MAG,... etc. But not all of them. The reason I want know this is because I need to do some specific APDL or general programming and some time I don't know the...

ANSYS default variables (parameters) and functions.

Thanks a lot Brian. Sorry I might not make my question clear enough in the last post. Actually I want to get the list of all the labels (varibles) like UX, UY, UZ, ROTX, ROTY, ROTZ , etc, and all their meaningful definition. Best, Jerry

ANSYS default variables (parameters) and functions.

Hello all, Could any of you ANSYS experts give me some hints how to chack the entire list of ANSYS default variables (parameters) and functions? Did some search, but couldn't get them. Thanks in advance. Jerry.

How to define two nodes with the same DOF?

Thanks for all your help, and sorry I didn't make things clear enough. Basically, I want to make the two nodes have same displacement. For example, if these node 1 & node 2 are on XY plane, I want them have only in-plane displacement (UZ=0), but move in opposite direction (expansion or...

How to define two nodes with the same DOF?

Sorry forgot to mention: the DOF (UX, UY, UZ)is changing during the modeling.
