I think you will find its like everything in design work. Calculations are essentially guesses in some instances, the real proof is how it runs and what restriction or not it causes. An easy starting point is find a similar cu in engine and start with what that manufacture uses. Save time and...
It would be best to have a special crankshaft made for the rear engine, like mentioned it will be looking at twice what
it was meant to take for torque.
The answer to the question is they are there to clamp. The slots weaken that area somewhat so the material will move enough to allow the bolts to
pinch the holes tighter. I guess that is what you were asking.
In the old days in the aircraft engine world, the simple way to make more power was simply to add more cylinders.
Not bigger cylinders just more, bigger cylinders would be less efficient as well as having to redesign the wheel of sorts.
And you can do all the calculations you wish, in the end...
I thank you Mike, good info.

The comparison I was looking for is, fuel use of a very slow speed engine to a faster speed engine of the same HP rating.
Since a PC system engine would be less efficient than a DI engine I guess my old Cat engine would not be the correct one to...
I suppose it is possible. So is the torsional damper on the rebuilt engine new? How do you measure the vibrations?
Most trucks that I have been around use nonsyncronized transmissions because they are a number one wear item especially with such high torques to deal with.
I hope Catservice engineer reads this one.
A genset would be the best because of steady load to do a comparison. Older Cat diesel engines where rated at pretty low
rpms, since the low rpms represent lower air volume per unit time thus lower fuel flow. I would like to know how the economy of...
And with the last poster, I'd like to see dimensions of the parts.
And second question is why? Why to all of it, why the fussy entry exit, why the finish etc.
All the holes will need to be spotted, and small through spindle coolant Guhring drills are the way to go and will give
good life...
The mineral/synthetic blends are not something new, I used to use syn blend some years back.
Here ya go.

So out of all these words and numbers I see here in this post there is no mention of what viscosity the...
So what is the size of the vehicle?
What kind of loads are on the output shaft of the transmission?
Is it a large earth moving machine or a race car?
There are many transmissions that have been designed for most all applications.
Why reinvent the wheel?
If the measuring device is not loading the engine then it would essentially read zero. So yes output is zero.
Internally still takes torque and power to move the mechanical parts and the air.
It will depend on many things, application for one, and HP rating. And of course the material you plan to use as well.
FEA yeah, but in the old days it was also and still can be trial and error, using stress coat and strain gauges.
Its not just a use this thickness or that thickness, its also...
First of all what brand and size is the engine? And a photo is what is needed. Any discoloration may have been present the day the engine was assembled. Those engines aren't exactly built up by the same caliber of people that assemble an F1 racing engine, its like any other job in the...
