    Do you have a spare PSU you can swop out and try? In my experience all my issues with systems mysteriously resetting or freezing were the result of a PSU unit on its last leg or merely acting up. Good luck.

    The books above are all great. I have them all and a few others. However, the best book for your level in starting out with FEA, and matching the criteria you mention above in my humble is "A First Course in the Finite Element Method" by Daryl Logan 4th edition (2011). Check it out.

    kiwi007 Set your analysis requirements in the project window then your structure has to be modeled with line elements. WB certainly has this capability.

    If your future is Aerospace, CATIA is definitely the way to go. And by the way, Solidworks, is also owned by 'Dassault Systems", the guys who bring u CATIA. If u really got ur mind set on another CAD app, go for Solid Edge, from EDS, a major force in CAD/CAM/CAE. They are a huge company...

    Look into "Roarks Formula for Stress and Strain" plugin for "Mathcad". You will have all the formulas from the book as a software bundle that u can calculate in Mathcad. Real neat and simple. You can thrw your calculator away now :) arnie333 ~_~
