Hi guys I am just about to start a study on STATCOMs and since I don't know anything about it, I am not sure where to source info about it.
Has anyone got any pointers..??

I've been using the Doble F6150 and don't really have problems...
The newest SW interface is really good, but as any new SW issues happen..

Energymonkey, in the utility which I work at, we usually try to do a I/R test (megger) on 132kV and 275kV lines, prior to initial energisation, but we mostly find that it can be hard to identify any issues...
On a 40km OH line you are probably going to find a "fairly low" value of I/R as the...
Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone knows the name of some good books about Power System Analysis / Protection...
I currently work as a Testing Officer for the local electricity supplier, but would like to acquire "more in depth" knowledge in power system analysis and protection to...
The difference in impedance for 800m of cable (80% setting) and 1200m (120% setting), would be so small that I doubt you will be able to achieve the desired accuracy on that protection relay.

As previously mentioned, make sure you have someone that has done this type of work before.
Drop oil level to below bushing level (have spill kits ready, just in case).
Make sure it's a "dry day" (I would not be doing it in 60% humidity).
Account for the loss of a bushing (break during...
Thx guys, I have been "collecting" relay manuals for about 3 years now, they have made my life so much easier when testing them...
Enjoy it...

Lifelong learning is the way to the future...
There is goes, mate...
Hope you enjoy it...
Those manuals r worth their pages in gold... heheheh
Let us know if you need a hand on how to test them...

Thank you so much, locals...
I think that has just sroted me out...
Now I just need to convince my client that I want the power analysers back on and I should be able to study this data and get to a conclusion.
Thank you once again, bgustave, pafi and locals...

Thanks Pafi...
OK...
The measurement of the THD was done at the incomers 1 & 2 on site (on VTs and CTs circuits)...
My understanding is that the "valuable information is the Voltage component of the harmonics, but I have both readings...
As I mentioned both incomers on site have PFC banks...
Thank you bgustave, for the response, the system does have PFC banks (PCF 1 at Incomer 1 and PFC 2 at Incomer 2), but they have been switched off for months, as they were affecting the ripple frequency of the local supply authority (hot water and Air Con switching frequency).
So I guess they...
An other way t look at it as well, is to calculate I^2*R so then you will have some idea of how much loss you are going to have on each connection...
You will probably find that for a 300mm^2 cable lug connection your reading will be in the order of approx. 10 micro ohm if not less...
Hope...
Hi everyone...
While trying to identify the level of total harmonic distortion in a HV system (11kV), my client wants to know if it is possible to find out if the harmonics are being generated on site or if they are part of the input voltage coming into the site.
The trick is that I can't...
At work we use a 10A Micro-ohms meter (CHK - LM05) to check this sort of connections.
For busbars in switchboards we usually use a 100A micro-ohms meter or the SWBD nominal current (if lower than 100A) to check all connections.
I think that would be the best way to go about it.
I hope that...
Hi Eti, it sounds like you are after some MiCOM P120 - P123 protection relays...
They are cheap, simple, user friendly... (NO, I DO NOT WORK FOR AREVA), but I have tested, GE Multilins, Sepams, SELs, MiCOMs and many more...
Funny enough, choosing relays comes down to personal choice... u can...
I have seen this sort of set up for a WIC 1 protection relay, where a "test winding" is provided, so you can secondary inject into the relay and test it...
Just like Marmite said...
Have a look at the manual I have attached to this forum.
I hope that has helped.

Exactly as burnt2x said, a simple Tuns ratio test on your TRX should solve your problem.
What we do at work is apply 1kVac on to the primary and measure the voltage on the secondary.
On a Dyn11 trx you find that applying 1kV between AB phases (HV side) you will get 37.61V only between "a"...
