Yes sir, that's the video alright. I still laugh at that no matter how many times I see it.

Good stuff as always IRStuff!
Also I'm guessing that expert link at the bottom is the request for 7 red lines....with blue ink?

A very interesting conversation for a number of reasons -
Wife and I just moved to a new house and my boxes of books was the lion share of boxed items.
I'm also going to re-evaluate the reference books I have and what I use on a regular basis.
Lastly I have a close relative who works at a...
spsalso - That's only true for what disrepair was in the contract for the construction company to repair. If replacing potentially corroded cables was not in the scope of the contract then that work would not have been done. It's possible that no one knew about corrosion within the cable...
The concrete pump is green and is outside one of the abutments. See this link.

Collapsed bridge is two lane and a three span with extended pile bents as intermediate bents. The superstructure was a slab bridge which is not hugely uncommon in the state. But most likely used because it's likely a low water crossing. So the shallow slab superstructure allowed more...
Often times large/long wingwalls are supported on piling as necessary unless the site has shallow bedrock. In some cases, walls can be broken into two or more sections and any section founded as necessary.

Of course, the answer is dependent on many factors, not the least of which are:
Is this a single pile application? Or is this multiple pile arrangement?
Is this current question based on older drawings, when Allowable Stress Design (ASD) was prevalent in the industry? Or more recent where LRFD...
Thanks for sharing the publication. Very interesting both the old destroyed pontoon bridge and the newer RR bridge. I'm always amazed at the speed that RR bridges can be built.

I would think there are lots of skid fabrication companies that would be able to help and provide cost data/schedule as well. If for a bid project, you can probably get them to help with a performance specification that will minimize your efforts and reduce your risk while allowing the skid...
I always like a new bridge and a unique one at that. but something about this just screams "waste of money" and not the least bit aesthetically pleasing. Looks like someone took a big section out of a roller coaster Just my two cents.
Also I'm guessing the cables follow the top of the arched...
Correct hokie66, the patch or skip loading is live load. We need to combine the lane load (uniform load) with vehicle wheel loads to produce maximum results for all responses.

Hi Hokie66 - I'm sure there are other terms for this, and is not specific to bridge engineering, that is essentially loading continuous spans differently to produce different maximum results for shears, moments, reactions and deflections. Alternate span loading, skip loading are others I've...
Hokie66 - Yes, this is the positive moment at the intermediate support due to patch loading. Not the usual positive moment resulting from a symmetrical load arrangement at mid span or thereabout.

Generally I've seen some companies use SDS2 for structural steel shop drawings.
Tekla 3D is another one that is used.

IRstuff - I'd hoped you'd still be around on the site to reply. I changed the i=0 and n-1 and the expression worked. So thanks for that! I'll have to figure out why it worked on the other Mathcad sheet as the variables all appear to be the same.
Thanks again,

All - Please see the attached pdf. I'm having difficulty getting the following to work in Mathcad. The error I get is this array index is invalid for this array. The frustrating part is that I've done this before in a different Mathcad sheet and it's worked fine. Any ideas as to what I'm...
Ok, so what I learned is that "user error" occurs more often than not. It turns out that I misinterpreted the entry for the column spacing and had all columns at the same distance. So they were in effect overlying on each other. What's not obvious in the input is that the column distance is...
Thanks stressed. That reminder about the extrusion in the display prompt was what I needed for the rendering. The column issues still stands and I've sent the file to tech support at CSI. I'll post what they say.
Thanks.
