    Selecting surfaces for contact interaction

I need all surfaces for the contact. What is tangent propagation? Thanks

    Selecting surfaces for contact interaction

I created a screw in bone block model. The screw has a helical thread on it's surface and the hole in bone matches the surface of the screw. I am trying to create a surface to surface contact interaction between the screw and bone but I do not know how to select the "whole surface" of the screw...

Assigning properties to 2 layers in the same body.

I've finally figured out how to do it. Thanks!

Assigning properties to 2 layers in the same body.

I successfully partitioned the body into two layers but when I try to assign properties it still selects the whole body instead of each section separately.

Assigning properties to 2 layers in the same body.

Isn't there a different way? a composite layup or something similar?

Screw in bone model (modelling questions)

The tie constraint worked well for me. But now I want to use the surface to surface interaction. I tried to do it but it failed to converge. There are a lot of parameters which I don't really understand, can anyone help me with this model please?

Assigning properties to 2 layers in the same body.

Hi, I am trying to model a bone block with 2 layers with different material properties, cortical bone and cancellous bone. The two layers should act as one body. How do I do that? Thanks

Screw in bone model (modelling questions)

I tied the two objects by defining their surfaces and creating a new tie constraint. I did not define any interaction. Now when I apply a concentrated force on the screw, the results show the stress profiles on the screw but nothing on the bone, any idea why?

Screw in bone model (modelling questions)

Is there a way to mesh the assembly altogether so that the nodes will be connected? Do they have to be connected anyway or would the Tie constraint solve the problem? Thanks a lot

Screw in bone model (modelling questions)

hi, I am testing the stresses in bone around screws mechanically drilled in bone. I drew screw and bone block models in Solidworks and then imported the X_T files in abaqus. I have a few questions on my model: 1- How can I drill the screw hole in the bone block? I used the merge/cut command...

    Importing parts to abaqus

I used the repair tools to merge surfaces and it worked fine. Thank you very much

    Problem meshing a screw

Hi, I am a newbie and I am trying to learn the basics. I am doing a FE study on miniscrews in bone. I drew a 3D model of a screw in Solidworks. The design includes a helical modified buttress thread which is necessary for the analysis. When I load the x_t file in abaqus I get the following...

    Some basic questions

I am asking about physical rotation of the object not just for viewing. What I am wish to do is the following: I drew a screw, now I wish to draw a block and drill holes in the block matching the exact shape of the screw. I need to rotate the screw so that I make holes at different angles to the...

    Some basic questions

I know these are some really basic questions but I appreciate your help since I started using SW less than a month ago. I am using version 2008 SP0.0. 1- How do I resize a part proportionally and unproportionally? i.e. change length but not width or vice versa? 2- How do I translate/rotate a...

Drawing a tapered screw with true helical threads

BoomerSooner7 and ctopher thanks so much... I appreciate your help... I think I know how to do it now

Drawing a tapered screw with true helical threads

CorBlimeyLimey No, but I will use it in a finite element study. BoomerSooner7 This is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you very much. How do you make the threads on the tapered and cylindrical parts exactly match? this is what I could not do. Theophilus Thanks a lot. I have a question...

Drawing a tapered screw with true helical threads

I am using SW 2008 SP0.0 My problem is in the threads. They do not look like the design I want and their size is not consistent all over the surface. Here are the screw I drew and the screw I am trying to draw. http://img404.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screw1bj9.jpg...

Drawing a tapered screw with true helical threads

I did the same thing you mentioned but it seems the cut follows the helix in 2D not in 3D so the thread becomes larger the closer you get to the taper! any other thoughts?

Drawing a tapered screw with true helical threads

Hi, I'm trying to use Solidworks to draw 3D models of orthodontic miniscrews. I found some tutorials online and could successfully draw cylindrical screws with true helical threads (by using the swept boss feature over a helical curve), but I could not draw "tapered" screws because when I use...
