Dear Mat,
In the blog I explain a simply cantilever beam of a sine vibration modal frequency response dynamic analysis (SOL111) under a base motion:
The constrained node of the base is excited by a constant acceleration of 0.25G in the frequency range say 0-500 Hz:
Critical damping of 10% is...
Dear Mat,
Random Vibration analysis is a postprocessing task of modal dynamic frequency response (SOL111), see my blog of Simcenter FEMAP & NASTRAN:
https://iberisa.wordpress.com/2021/01/17/random-vibration-con-femap/
The excitation for a frequency response (SOL111) in general is a constante...
Dear Matparta,
When the excitation is defined in amplitude of displacement or velocity in the frequency range the correct approach is to convert the excitation to acceleration and apply to the base of the frame structure using an RBE2 spider rigid element, not to the point mass: in the point...
Dear David,
The trick I do is to play with ERASE MODE: simply use SELECT SURFACES command and use METHOD^ > FROM ELEMENT > SELECT VISIBLE > OK and all elements associated with the selected surfaces & proper surfaces will be erased from the screen: any surface missing to mesh will be visible in...
Dear David,
Plate/Shell elements are devoted to mesh the midsurface of a solid, and the thickness goes half to top & half to bottom fiber.
You have OFFSET option in the mesh > mesh control > attributes property for surfaces command: this will allows to mesh either the top or bottom face in...
Dear David,
This is exactly the meaning of the GLUE surface-to-surface, see my blog:
https://iberisa.wordpress.com/2011/08/21/contacto-rigido-curva-a-superficie-glue-edge-to-surface-contact-por-jim-bernard-siemens-plm/
Glue is a simple and effective method of Simcenter NASTRAN to join meshes...
Hello!,
A new version of Simcenter FEMAP with NASTRAN V2406 MP1 is available for download plenty of new features and capabilities, please visit my BLOG to know the details, thanks!.
https://iberisa.wordpress.com/2024/12/09/simcenter-femap-v2406-julio-2024/
Best regards,
Blas.
Dear Kowalski,
Strange the warning message: in a modal/eigenvalue analysis (SOL103) not need to apply any loading to run the NASTRAN solver, and in fact, real eigenvalue analysis is the basis for many types of dynamic response analyses, like modal frequency dynamic response (SOL111) or Transient...
Hello!,
SIEMENS just buys Altair, so more soon than later we will have in FEMAP a translator for both OptiStruct & Radioss, I hope!!.

Best regards,
Blas.
Hello!,
In fact, if I import the BDF in FEMAP V2406 and check the element quality for NASTRAN I see the two "ofending" triangle plate elements that failed at all:
Check Element Quality
13742 Element(s) Selected...

Dear Brut3,
This is a very thin plate, then is crazy to mesh using 3D solid elements (to account for stress gradient you need to mesh with minimum TWO elements in the thickness), the correct meshing workflow should be to create a midsurface and mesh with 2-D Plate/Shell CQUAD4 elements:
In...
Dear Worcester,
FEMAP geometry engine is based in Parasolid, is the native format, then if you want the maximum precission in geometry use Parasolid (*.X_T files), but STEP is a valid "neutral" geometry format very useful to share solids, I never have had any problem sharing or importing...
Dear Worcester,
I have tested the issue but at my end FEMAP is running correctly, so is a local problem related with your geometry, probably you have in your FEMAP model a mix of solid parts with different scale factors, list your solids using command LIST > GEOMETRY > SOLIDS, you will see...
Dear Tom,
To help you more effectively you need to explain better the problem: How do you generate the EXCEL file, using an user API or a FEMAP command?.
When you say FORCE BALANCE you refer to create a FREE BODY DIAGRAM?. In this case you need to make sure to activate the FORCE BALANCE in the...
Dear Standley,
The text results are pinted in the nastran *.f06 file, is this the file you are referring to?.
Never use the SCRATCH directory to save results, this is only for NASTRAN for temporal location during calculation, after solving with success NASTRAN will delete temporal results...
Dear Matt,
For SPOT WELDS we are fortunate using Simcenter NASTRAN where we have the CWELD element, see my blog.
In FEMAP is ALL automatic using the CUSTOM TOOL APIs, simply define a TXT file with the spot welds XYZ locations and you are done.
In NX I suppose you have automatic methods as well...
Dear hhcc_im,
I ran your FEMAP model and the analysis runs correctly, why you say "I cannot get the same full non-lienar analysis rersults"??.
You need to play with "Actual Deformation = ON" and "Scale Deformation = 1" to see nonlinear displacements results at scale 1:1 (real scale deformed...
Dear Itxusta,
As told by SWCOMSITES you need to assign a cylindrical coordenate system (either local or global) to the properties of the CBUSH element.
This is the form we have in FEMAP with NASTRAN software bundle to define the properties of the CBUSH element, search for similar fields in NX...
