A little bit late, but.. Try to fix rotation along bolt axis on single point on bolt.

Do you try to change minimum increment size in job defining? Sometimes 1e-5 is to low. For steel properties sometimes 1e-7, 1e-8 is proper, especially with contacts.

Maybe, simply model rigid plate and fix it at position where you want its?

Hi, Try to change first increment size to 0.01, also important matter is what amount of pressure do you apply? Is this reasonable value or you simply apply "something large enough"?

Does the membrane element have all DOF's active? If not, then beams could rotate alone axis. Try fix DOF 6 at beams. breg Tomasz

Look into this chapter of Abaqus Example Problems Manual: - 1.2.3 Buckling of a column with spot welds in Abaqus Example Problems Manual They use fasteners.

Also Abaqus in latest (6.10) version has a semi-automatic tool for mid-surface extraction.

If I remember correctly, you can simply create new job in abaqus/cae and instead of model you can mark inp file (dropdown list model/input). regards Tomek

You could also try to preload with small displacement to close contacts or (I never test this, but I heard that it sometimes help) simply leave "empty" step to let solver find all contacts. regards Tomek
