    V4 resurrected

wes666: We should probably start another thread. Quote: I'm a V5 user... but I hear the guys around me talk about v4 lovingly (like a long since dead old friend). I'd love to hear what you have to say about v4 regarding archtecture.... mostly because my wife is an architect, and I've been...

    V4 resurrected

solid7: \ 1. See my profile; my CATIA specialty for 3 years was architectural (Frank Gehry) before I retired. There is a slight possibility of some similar contract work part time for a more conventional arch/bldr who may need some 3D modeling which V4 (not V5) is elegantly capable of... 2. If...

    V4 resurrected

What is the capability of usb ports in AIX/CATIA? I/O to a pc? Printing to a latter-day usb inkjet printer? USB mouse? ===== Best source(s) for possible refurbished 285s?

    V4 resurrected

I am considering pulling my V4 out of storage; what level of RS6000 box should I be shopping for? At what level did usb appear, and what's it good for--printing screen dumps to a modern printer? What level of graphics card would be suitable? Anyone heard of a dual monitor graphics card which...

    CATIA / Solidworks Comparison

What intro course did you finish, SparWeb? FWIW, I asked a SW var the other day how MUCH I could pay for SW and she said "about 7 or 8 thousand".... I have never found out how much a full (100+modules) of CATIA might cost, but of course no one could ever use all the specialized...

What are Class A Surfaces ?

Sorry I don't know where it came from for proper attribution.

What are Class A Surfaces ?

More on Class A surfaces: ===================== Class A Surfaces The definition depends on who you ask. I think the two basic opinions are that class of surface either refers to location or quality (or maybe both) For example: LOCATION - all surfaces that a consumer normally sees can be...

    Dual display support

I have used the Matrox G450 dual head cards for several years. Works well on V5 because you can keep the tutorial or help files on the right screen as you work on the other.

    Documentation for v5R10

I too have noticed that there is a distinct lack of surfacing theory in the V5 documentation. Nor have I found a third-party source for updated surface modeling theory. Machine Design has a current article about complex surfacing...

    Documentation for v5R10

I need to check my R10 source box but it's in another state at the moment. When I look at my R8 .pdf files which are on my HD, the links for the tutorial model files appear to point to the cd drive... In any event, I spent a lot of time and paper trying to get the html documentation to print...

    Documentation for v5R10

Right, but I don't think that the tutorials in the .pdf manuals are hyperlinked to the appropriate sample models available when the documentation is 'online' (on the workstation). ================================= Akesson: Did you actually get a pdf disk with your r10 install? I can't find any...

    Documentation for v5R10

Check out Richard Cozzens' books at: www.schroff.com And don't forget that CATIA has superb mini-tutorials with sample models for every 'product.' (Assuming that the on-line (on your workstation) documentation is properly installed)

Viewing models with Catia V5 Demo software???

Keith: Did you get any solutions to your original post? As I have posted several times in the past, the R7 demo is pathetic for a company like DS/IBM. The new $100 R10 solution for students looks much better, but I haven't read where it solves file incompatibility.

    Working Examples

I hope you have the V5 documentation installed and functional. If so, notice that every product has mini-tutorials with accompanying sample work models. You can spend many hours working through what is provided by CATIA, then buy Cozzens V5 Workbooks I and II. www.schroff.com Don't forget...

Viewing models with Catia V5 Demo software???

There is an interesting thread on COE about "student" CATIA software (may need to register for access): http://neo3.sba.com/forums/Thread.cfm?CFApp=57&Thread_ID=28493&mc=12 engineering. com is SELLING some demo disk, probably the V7 that DS/IBM offers free, for $100. It's not...

Is Catia the same for different industries?

re: aec structural in V5...useless for anything beyond simple ortho structures. Now V4 aec--with the exception of no curved elements and a few bugs one could work around--was quite impressive. Not a detailer however. V4 at work: http://www.laphil.org/wdch/...

Anybody know where I can find documentation for drafting in v5r9?

The last disk (third documentation disk) for recent CATIA installs is really a stand-alone folder full of PDF manuals for study and printout for most all CATIA products. If I were making my living representing DS/IBM I would be making available these manuals on request to ANYONE interested in...

Graphic adapter suited for Catia V5

I have used Matrox G450 cards for several years. Dual monitors are especially useful when running through CAD tutorials. I am looking forward to the Matrox Parhelia 3-monitor cards, which are available for not much more than $200 for 128mb memory. The 256mb card, possibly not available yet...

    LPFK lighted keypads

Re: LPFM (brings back fond (?) memories of V2 and V3) If you are really interested in an auxiliary keyboard for V5, (and it makes sense to me in a productive environment--I had one for AutoCAD several years ago), you might be better off to find a Win-compatible programmable keyboard. When I...

    Searching for small thumb screws.

Besides McMaster-Carr, there is Carr-Lane and there used to be PIC Design and several other small-component suppliers with catalogs--and don't forget that the Thomas guide is online listing probably every supplier one could think of.
