    NPTF Class 2 & NPTF Class 1

Is the only difference between NPTF Class 1 and NPTF Class 2 the inspection requirement of the crest and root truncation? Can NPTF Class 2 and NPTF Class 1 threads be used together without concern for leakage?

Standard Sampling Practice for Hydraulic Fluids

Is there a standard sampling practice for manually sampling hydraulic fluids? ASTM D4057-12 has been recommended to me but paragraph 1.4, of that standard, explicitly states that it does not cover hydraulic fluids. Thank you for any help you can provide.

    ASTM A234 - Gr 4130

metengr, Yes, the companies are based in the UK. I've attached a screenshot from one of their specification pages. EdStainless, That is what I thought. Section 5 of the ASTM A234 specification doesn't appear to allow for variance outside of the values listed in Table 1. Thank you both for...

    ASTM A234 - Gr 4130

There are companies advertising fittings as A234 - Gr 4130. It doesn't appear that any of the A234 grades listed in table 1, of the ASTM specification, have the chemical composition range to allow 4130. How are they doing this?

    Unlisted Material Weld Qualification

Does B31.3 permit the designer to specify a weld metal that results in a lower tensile/yield strength than that of the unlisted base metal it is joining? The PQR uses A519-4130 joined with E10018-D2 MR. The tensile/yield results for the test specimens are lower than that listed in the ASTM...

    A519-4130 Tensile Strength

The MTR for a piece of A519-4130 (SR) we received lists its tensile strength at 104 ksi and yield strength at 88.5 ksi. Table S2, of ASTM A519-06, lists the A519-4130 (SR) with tensile and yield as 105 ksi and 85 ksi, respectively. Is there an allowable variance in the ASTM tensile strength?

    Two-Piece Bleeder Valve

I am trying to locate two-piece bleeder screws, like the one in the attachment. The assembly consists of an outer bushing with a bleeder screw that screws into it. The bushing has -4 SAE threads and appears to be a 37 degree JIC fitting with an O-ring. The bleeder screw is 1/4” with 1/4 – 28...

    AISI 4130 Pipe Welding Issue

Thank you for your feedback, gtaw. I'm having trouble finding a SMAW electrode with matching chemistry. The E7016 H4 electrode was recommended by a Lincoln applications engineer but the chemistry does not match. Is there a more suitable electrode for the root?

    AISI 4130 Pipe Welding Issue

The analysis confirmed that the XXH, NPS 4 pipe is 4130. Samples for a procedure qualification were welded and sent for testing using an E6010 root and E10018-D2 H4R fill and cap. Unfortunately, the tensile/yield results were unacceptable. Results are attached. We used a 400F preheat with a...

    AISI 4130 Pipe Welding Issue

Thank you metengr & racookepe1978 for your help with this. We will get some pipe from a different melt and fab more samples. Short of getting a chemical analysis, is there a way to tell if the NPS 4 was stenciled incorrectly and not actually 4130? The reason I ask, this morning while...

    AISI 4130 Pipe Welding Issue

We are experiencing differences in the weldability and weld quality between two different sizes of 4130 pipe. The welding procedure requires a 400F preheat with 650F max interpass temp. The root is E6010 with E10018-D2 H4R for fill and cap. Welds made in the NPS 2 pipe were as expected but NPS 4...

    API 16C Welding Qualification

According to 6.3.4.3 Heat Treat Condition, testing shall be done with the test weldment in the PWHT condition. Does this requirement apply to the WPQ as well as the PQR? Do the WPQ require impact testing?
