I recently purchased a plate heat exchanger for our process which should cool down a gas stream from about 850 deg C to 50 deg C using water coolant. The heat exchanger supplier provided the heat exchanger which he insisted could handle gas temperatures close to 850 deg C as long as there is...
Thank you all for your tips. To answer you separately:
@EdStainless: Its a dissolution reaction without precipitation. It would proceed as follows: MgCO3 (s) + 2HCl (aq) = MgCl2 (aq) + H2O (aq) + CO2 (g)
The HCl concentration will be 37 wt%. I have not yet gone deep into the free energies. I can...
I suppose the dissolution of MgCO3 in HCl is exothermic. However, I cannot find any reliable references confirming this. I am looking for the dissolution enthalpy of MgCO3 in HCl together with the references. May you please help if you can. I have been searching but it is not easy to find as I...
Or rather, let us forget about the heat exchanger and boiler and concentrate on the conceptual design of the optimal heating solution for this duty. I am a bit stranded on this one.
It is desired to produce 15 liters / h of 92 % v/v ethanol using a still. This will be achieved by heating fermented juice (9.25 % v/v ethanol) in a 525 gallon tank operating at 440 gallons to which 2 stills are connected. It has been proposed to heat the 440 gallons of fermented juice from room...
Thanks for your responses. This is just a research project and I do not intend to purchase the equipment. I am attempting to follow the procedure in Richardson and Courlson Chemical Engineering text book, chapter 12 in which you estimate U from data given in literature say for Steam-water...
I am experiencing problems in sizing a heat exchanger and boiler for the following duty:
We intend to produce 92 % v/v ethanol from 9.25 % v/v fermented juice using a still. the juice must be heated in a tank from 25 deg C to about 85 deg C (not quite sure about the optimum temp) using a heat...
Thanks. However, that is not the one I mean.
There is a valve which regulates the magnitude of vacuum in the low 'cloudy' filtrate tank and the high 'clear' filtrate tank and its located on the pipe interconnecting the two tanks. See diagram on web link provided...
Does anyone have an idea of how the Oliver filters vacuum regulating valve functions and description of its components? Oliver filters are rotary drum vacuum filters commonly used in the sugar industry to filter mud from clarifiers so as to recover juice which is recycled back for processing.
May be you need to know the amount of vapor flashed (from flash calculations. That would help in determining the size of the vapor outlet pipe. I'm not sure about how to select the residence time but a cost-benefit analysis should also help in determining the optimum size of the tank.
Thanks for your responses and compliments of the season.
CH5OH - May you elaborate a little bit more on the last 2 statements about temp cooler out and temp cooler in. Also note that Perry's Chemical Engineers' handbook quotes the minimum design approach temperature as 2.8 deg C which means...
I guess, the only way out would be to make intelligent estimates of the air flow rate, dry bulb temperature and wet bulb temperature of outlet air. Assuming that the outlet air has 100 % humidity, then wet bulb temperature = dry bulb temperature
At our company, we currently have a 3-cell counter current flow induced draught cooling tower used for cooling service water for vacuum pumps. Literature states that vacuum pumps operate at maximum capacity when service water temperature is 15 degrees Celsius and below. The design data available...
