Is it posable to have both a dual speed and dual voltage motor with 12 wires. I am looking at a machine that has a standard 3 contactor configuration for dual speed but the motor name plate states 240/480, 1725 RPM. AFAIK 6 wires are all that is required for dual speed, 9 or 12 for dual voltage.

Yes..It is quite probable that the motor you are looking at has two seperate windings, one for each speed, with six leads out of each...both windings being dual voltage at y 480v and delta 240v..also allowing the use of star/delta starting for certain applications.

hope this helps

Hello charolds,

I think is better you states the motor´s Voltage, this will give you the chance to use a motor with Dahlander connection and only six wires, in this case you could handle the motor with three contactors. If you need the option to power the motor with both voltages then the electric motor most be with two independent windings, 12 Lines for dual voltage, y-yy or D-DD connection and the contactors numbers depends of the start type.
