Hello to all,
i need some clarity and healthy discussion of one design change intitation which i want to implement on 2-piece ball valves.
as shown in two pictures, there's gland flange bolting of 2-piece 50mm class 150 cast steel floating ball valve, as shown there currently gland flange bolted with body with a headed bolt and nut. if u look carefully on the bottom nut side sitting face there's grooved portion in which nut is placed.
so i am thinking to change this design with a slot in body gland side flange shown in another picture of 3d model.
actually at the moment it's very tedious task in die to make those hole and groove for bolt and nut.
so my question,is there will be any major effect on joint or what are the possible consequences arises from this?

All the forces on the nut end up being resisted by those two thin edges as opposed to all 6 faces.

So they really need to be thicker to avoid damage or getting snapped off as you tighten up the bolt. Turning the bolt means the nut will be forced out of the slot and hence bend the bolt.

Prob better to just have a rounded slot than edges.

Why have the nut fixed and not just use a spanner on a flat edge?

littleinch thanks for replying,
the line u mentioned "Why have the nut fixed and not just use a spanner on a flat edge?" what does this mean?

What it says.

Why not just eliminate the little pocket where that nut sits and if you need to tighten the bolt use a spanner on the nut to stop it moving?

Or thread the hole and forget about the nut?

littleinch, i want to ask can i use slotted hole instead of this design?
like I read in API product standard that you can't use slotted holes, so in perspective of the standard am i allow to do this?
need to confirm it.
thanks

What API standard - there are a lot?

Which section?

Cut and past the section which says that.
