2015 SDPWS 4.2.7.4 clarification

I've got an engineer in my office (does not have an Eng-Tips account) that is needing to do horizontal lumber sheathing and we are puzzled by the language of 4.2.7.4 in the 2015 SDPWS. The specific sentence in question is, "End joints in adjacent boards shall be separated by at least one joist space and there shall be at least two boards between joints on the same support."

We are not sure how to interpret this and are unable to find any details doing some quick google searches. Can anyone provide any additional clarification or maybe even a sketch to explain what is being stated in this sentence?

Thanks in advance for any help in understanding this!

Is that a new provision and I missed it, or is that an old provision I've never noticed?

Figure makes sense to me. Boards that end on a joist need to have two more boards that don't end on the joist before another board ends on the joist, and the adjacent boards have to end at least one joist away from the current joist.

Won't be able to see that too readily on existing construction topside (like my house). Concealed from below, too.
