316 vs 302 stainless springs and spring life

Im using small springs approx .188 x .025wire x 1". I have the choice of 302 or 316 stainless. I believe that 316 has slightly better corrosion resistance, but what about temperature? In an operating temperature of 300-350F, which grade is better about retaining its memory and force? Will 302 have better fatigue resistance and retain its force longer than 316? Will they produce very similar results, or will one material be more likely to take a set? The spring will be constantly changing, but never go past recommended deflection. The spring will not be in any corrosive fluids.

In the end, Im sure I will do testing, but I wanted to see if anyone had any input on the subject.

thanks

Are they manufactured to the same tensile strength?
If so, then I would go with 316

If they are not subject to a corrosive medium, I would go with 302 and the sizable cost savings it offers.

Hey guys. The specs call out the same spring rate. Suprisingly, the costs are similar. THe springs are internal and will not see any corrosive fluid, gas or any downhole treats.

Spring rate is dependent on geometry and elastic modulus, so it should be the same between the two springs. You must be purchasing small quantities where the material cost is not a dominant factor in part cost. Both alloys should behave similarly for your stated environment.

But fatigue life is a function of strength (OK, stress).

I never liked working with 302 when I was drawing wire.
It just seemed that we got more consistent/uniform results out of 316.
