Hi All,

We have a batch of 7010 which we want to heat treat to t6. However with our current recipe we are getting some unexpected corrosion in use and want to see if there are other methods for obtaining t6.

Does anyone know the annealing temps and time, or know the process for 7010 t6. Cannot find it anywhere.

Many Thanks

Ed Davies

The 7000 series aluminum alloys exhibit lower corrosion resistance than some of the other alloys, like 6061. What is your application? Why do you suspect the heat treat process?

The normal industrial treatment for this alloy for the T6 condition involves aging at 121 deg C for 24 hours. The corrosion resistance of this alloy is not as good as 6061 as stated above. This is to be expected and as nothing to do with the way it which it is heat treatment to the T6 condition. To enhance corrosion properties for 7010 alloy you have the option to anodise. This will slightly reduce the fatigue properties but the corrosion resistance will be much better.

Many Thanks for that - it will be interesting to see the results as we have been doing 115C at present.
