Hello all:

There are quite a few of these types of programs actually, costing around $200.

However, I found a free one, which works fairly well.

The name of the program is "Inkscape".

You can downloaded from here:

I am using version 0.48 on my Windows 7 computer.

Hi Toprak,

I have tried to use Inkscape before to convert a PDF to DXF, but I could not get it to work. I forgot what problem I was having, but I seem to remember nothing appearing in the DXF file that I outputted. Do you have a PDF that worked for you? What options did you choose when exporting the file? Does it only work for certain types of PDF files, such as images with only black lines?

Best,
Medeski

Hello Medeski:

I had quite a few PDFs that I was able to convert.

For a successful conversion, I think the PDF has to be an output of a CAD program. When I tried it with the PDFs of hand drafted drawings it did not work. It would not also work when I tried to convert screen shots of PDFs that originate from a CAD. ( With a screen shot, I was selecting a smaller area of the drawing that was of interest to me, to save from extensive editing of the converted file.)

Try the attached, see if you can convert it to DFX. Please note that the object in the drawing is very tiny when I open it with my CAD program. I have to zoom on it to be able to see it. So look at the screen very carefully.

Regards,

Al

Hi Al,

Thank you, I will try it out. I forgot that I do not get notifications with threads I did not create, only replied to. I think I was trying to convert a PDF that was not generated by a CAD program.

Best,
Medeski
