Does anybody know of a common code compliant stainless steel fastener material? I am having difficulty sourcing A193 B8 Class I for a B31.1/Section VIII application. Thanks!
Send a RFQ to (850)479-3013. This people supply all over the country.
There is no way even in small lots that this fastener should cost that much unless that is their minimum order.
Please specify if it has to be domestic or can it be foreign.
I need 3/8"-16 socket head caps screws and 1-1/4"-7 heavy hex nuts - the screws in a193-b8 and nuts in a914-8. Mcmaster carr does not have the nuts or the screws - any other suggestions?
Watch what stress level you torque these bolts up to. The ambient yield stress on A193-B8 Class 1 bolts is only 30ksi and decreases with temperature. You can easily yield Class 1 bolts on the initial bolt-up and not know it. The joint will stay tight as the system heats up (bolt temperature lags behind process and flange temperature) but watch out as you reach steady state conditions or cool down -- potential leaks aplenty. Retorquing at temperature only compounds the problem.
Class 2 bolts have a higher ambient yield stress, on the order of 65ksi, but the standards don't require any differentiation on markings between Class 1 and Class 2 bolts. You need to add a supplemental marking requirement in your purchase order to be able to tell if you have Class 1 or 2.
Hey: I had the same problem a while ago.
McMaster was the answer. I give them credit: they are the only ones who have written specs and you do not have to ask questions all pver to know the unanswered. and if it is not in the catalog: they will probably order it for you, have you ask them?
Elmer.
If you can no find the bolts the needed fasteners, you can try rush bolts in el Monte Ca. i do not have their phone #.
