ABAQUS Fluid-Structure Co-simulation keeps crashing/Program not responding 1

I have no idea why this happens, but I've been pounding at this the whole night. I have a Fluid-Structure co-simulation all set up and ready to run. It does ok for about 3000 iterations, and then at a certain total time ABAQUS stops responding. What does this mean when this happens, is the solution blowing up/not converging, or is there something else happening?

Another thing is that I keep having the problem of ABAQUS disconnecting from the License Server after 3600 seconds, is there anyway to disable this?

Perhaps the network connection isn't as reliable as it ought to be or the license server is being shut down/restarted that brings the analysis to a halt. If there is a local installation of Abaqus, try running on it.

First off, thanks for your response in both my threads, you've been a major help. I'm currently running a local installation of ABAQUS 6.12 Research Edition on my lab computer, but the problem keeps surfacing at approximately the same point. I have had solutions blow up so I know what to expect when I monitor the Divergence values, but it's just mind-boggling when the program just stops responding altogether.
 
I don't know about the research edition. I imagine its not the same as student edition, is it?

Just to be sure, a particular model halts both with a the networked license as well as a local license, correct? What message(s) do you see in the command prompt (if you run your model from the command prompt)? If you do not run it from the command prompt, I suggest you do that and make sure nothing else is running on the machine (browser, editors, unnecessary services, etc.) For a local installation, the only thing I can think of is that may be the hardware isn't up for the task.

By the way, does this happen with other models as well? If you have a previous model that has worked, try running that one (if you haven't already).

Other jobs have run fine, but this is the first co-sim that i've run on this computer. It has 32Gb RAM and 8 processors, so it should at least run, even if slowly. I just don't understand why it just stops responding.

Come to think of it, it might actually be a networked license. The command prompt that shows up says it gets some license from the school's network. Would that affect how ABAQUS is run?

Yes! If the connection drops, or, if the hardware is being used to its max. capacity preventing proper communication over the network with the license server, or if the server is down etc., that will affect how ABAQUS functions.

You should not see experience this in a local installation, however.

I do have all 8 processors running, I'll try to run it with 6 and see how that goes, but I'm currently at my wits' end if that doesn't work. Does Simulia offer over-the-phone help or do they just have the knowledge base? Because I spent about 20 minutes figuring their website out and I gave up.

Hmm I don't think so, seeing as I am not advanced enough to do that yet. I basically followed this


Flow through a bent tube, but I modified the parameters for my case as necessary. The only thing I left out was

*Controls, type=FSI
, , , 1.1

In the *CO-SIMULATION CONTROLS part. Is that necessary? The user guide doesn't exactly elaborate on what that does. MY density ratio is much, much higher than 1.1 though.
