Abrasion on steel pipe caused by the sand in heavy crude

I am looking for information to do a study on Abrasion rates on steel pipe ,caused by the presence of sand in the crude oil.I am looking for any information which might help me determine the rate of abrasion on the steel pipe.

epoxy,<br><br>I don't have an answer for you, but I do know that Union Carbide's Linde used to have a sandjetting proces to clean crude heaters ppes (internally) and some of the side effects of the process was the abrasion of the &quot;u-bends&quot;. Give the a shot. I know they were located in New Jersey (at least the one that serviced Puerto Rico).<br><br>Airbus

I just joined the Forum so I might be late for your request.
....however, you can run offset (in time) multifeeler caliper logs to determine the erosion progression and predict the lifespan of your pipe. Try to contact Kinley Corporation in Houston. They developed and running this type of survey for the last 50 years.

I believe that the U. of OK. has a group doing some fairly extensive work on this subject, and also has an industry consortium which you can join.

I believe that the Centre for Engineering Research (C-FER) did a paper for the SPE on sand abrasion which relates to the forces exerted by the rod coupling on tubing and how the sand accelerates the wear. This may be of some help in your research. I believe that the SPE # for the paper is 22852.
