We obtained the following results from a ring sample of API 5L/ASTM A106 CS pipe:
ASTM E45 Inclusion Rating
Method A: Inclusion Content
A 160mm2 specimen was polished through alumina and examined unetched at 100x.
The worst field was compared and rated to ASTM E45, Plate I-r.
THIN HEAVY
A(Sulfide) ½ ½
B(Alumina) ½ 0
C(Silicate) ½ 4
D(Globular Oxide) ½ 0
I am enclosing section 7.8.10 of API 5L 43rd edition (pipe was manufactured under this edition not 44th). Can anyone tell me if we can correlate this results to this acceptance criteria? should this specimen be consired a reject?
By the way we do not know what the application of this material might be by the end user.
Thanks!
