Is the current escapade just another case of the west trying to protect the oil interests in the east of Libya? Where were these nations to protect the millions in Zimbabwe from their dictator. Oh, I forgot there is no oil in Zimbabwe.

Of course it gives the west a chance to dispose of their weapons with their use by date on them and much needed practice in using them. A secondary benefit is when the Libyans get their freedom they can replace their destroyed weapons from British Aerospace, Rockwell, Northrop etc.

Dont get me wrong I am not necessariy against the action but it is selctive when Africa has its dictators and no one seems to care.

Yeah 1770s, it was probably France getting their own back on the English for the Hundred years war! Same happened in Suez.

As a Brit the American revolution was a difficult one to talk about.

Did you admit you lost to a bunch of upstart colonials who didn't like paying taxes for the troops they needed to protect them from the natives, or do you admit a loss to the French.

Glad I'm one of those anti tax colonials now, we merrily claim victory down playing the frog input, just don't ask us why the white house is white.

I thought Obama painted it black when he moved in so as to stick it right up those who so viciously opposed him because he was not an American or because he was a terrorist and claimed it had nothing to do with black or white. ;-)

Regular and predictable actions must not become part of policy, otherwise some slight amount of predictability could be seen as a stabilizing influence. The one thing that we can't have anywhere near big oil is anything that could be seen as a hint of stability.

The only logical explanation of the past 70 years of west/mideast history is that the real "stability" of the West's future is in perpetuationg the continued instability of the oil field reqions. When Mohd is chasing Nasir, nobody realizes that Peter and Shadrach are out back fleecing the sheep.

What else could explain such policies. There are smart guys coming out of Harvard, Princeton, Oxford, Cambridge every day ... I have confidence that at least several of them could have solved any Mideast problem during the last 50 years, if there was any actual interest by the powers that be in doing so. I'm afraid the evidence shows that there is definitely a lack of interest in stability in any part of the "developing world". Every former colony was divided up into regions that would be nearly impossible to self govern. Look at the last example, Iraq today. The three of them can hardly sit in the same room together long enough to pour the tea while each group undercuts the other on the sale of the oil they do control. Where does fostering another unified mini OPEC in Iraq make sense. Fragmented groups selling over quotas is the only thing that guarantees a "free oil" supply to the western companies that are then free to control the consumer market.
