Hello,

Please refer to the attached extract from AISC 360-10.
Does the highlighted symbol imply that a fillet weld should be added on top of the flare-bevel groove weld?
What is the reason for using a dashed line for this fillet weld symbol? Will it be correct to use a solid line instead?
Do I have to take this fillet weld into account in my weld size determination? What should be the typical leg length of this fillet weld?

Regards,
Su

The dashed line is just indicating that the fillet weld reinforcing is optional (an extension to the prequalified joint configuration). If you desire that weld in your design, it needs to be solid. There are not actually dashed weld symbols.

Thanks for your response to my question.

Su
