Hi,
I am designing an open gantry crane for the first time though I have experience of eot cranes.I need to know the allowable deflection at top of legs under normal operating conditions i.e maximum acceleration with wind load of 25kgf/sq m.Any help in this matter would be highly appreciated.

Somewhere along the line - I've seen L/400 as a baseline for free-standing crane columns for crane a runway systems. From there, I add that I don't like a lot of movement in my runway systems - and bump the deflection to L/700 or so. With crane systems, I believe that Movement = fatigue = eventual failure. I would use similar approach with gantry column design.
